  • HL abrams turret stop working

I got the heng long abrams v7.0 with metal tracks off of Amazon. A couple weeks ago. I tested it out as soon as I got it for an hour or two seem to work just fine everything functioned. Then I really took it out today for a good long run. After a few mins the turret would rotate left and right only about 25 degrees before it started clicking. Then all of a sudden it just stopped rotating completely no motor noise or anything just wondering if I should return it or open it up and try to fix it thanks for any responses

Nevermind I'm still within the return. I spent $300 on it so I'm just going to return it and hope my next one works longer it has the metal trash I'm hoping to upgrade although idler Wheels metal as well. Glad I found this site it seems to be a lot of great advice here

Maybe when turret turned, it got stuck from 1 of the turret wires inside and made that clicking noise. Then it ripped off the turret wire from the board to the turret rotating motor and went dead. If you bought it new, maybe you should open and see if the wire CN3 from the board to the rotating motor is still intact. It is not that difficult. Better than going through the whole process of returning. If this returns to normal, try to wrap up or bundle all the wires together and tape them down so the turret can rotate freely.

Thanks for the advice ill try that real quick. My return window ends on fed 14 so it's cutting it close. Thanks for the reply. I would like to mod this tank in the future so I'm glad I found this awesome web site for help. Cheers

You have a stuck wire(s). Super easy to resolve just unscrew the upper and lower hulls and presto the turret ring will be visible. The turret gearbox will be attached to the upper hull and you will immediately see any stuck wires.

The clicking is the “ratchet/clutch” gear doing its job. It keeps the gearbox from tearing itself apart. Keep in mine these tanks are in fact still sold largely as toys. So mechanisms such as used in the gearbox are necessary.

The problem i have is i asked for and exchange with Amazon already. They say it will be here by Thursday. And I have to ship my old tank back by the 14th of Feb. My dumb butt freaked out lol. Not sure what I should do just take the new one or cancel it and risk something worse being wrong with it. The traverse only would go 15 to 25 degrees before clicking in either direction. Then it wouldn't traverse at all no motor noise at all. I really appreciate all your help with this I was freak out because it's my 2nd rc and first tank I payed 300 bucks for lol. I had a panic attack almost lol.

Well, from Thursday until 2/14 you can still open up the 1st one to see and learn about the issue. Then see if you can fix it. If you can not figure it out, then wait for the new one to arrive. For me, I would have both in front of me and open them up to compare and try to see where the difference lies. After that you can send the 1st one back. Soon or later you will need to open up your tank. While you are at it, take pictures to use them as reference in the future.

Before long you'll be modifying and opening it up will be no big deal.

That was my thinking as well since I already burned the original box it came in from Amazon not the tank box but the outside brown box it came in and the styrofoam keeping all my old accessories and just loading the old tank into the new tanks styrofoam packaging with all unopen accessories then using the new brown cardboard bow to **** it back to Amazon in. Thanks for the advice I will take it apart before I ship it back and get pictures because I am planning on upgrading certain things on the M1 Abrams it will give me a good idea how to modify the new tank so whatever happened doesn't happen again. Thanks for being so helpful I will send pictures once the new one gets here just 4archive

Funny you've mentioned. I started watching videos on YouTube about modifying it. Then I just happened to find this awesome forum I'm definitely planning on replacing all the road wheels metal to metal. I had the upgraded M1 Abrams what's a metal tracks and I believe there might be a metal gear box in there once I get the new replacement I'm going to tear apart the old one before I ship it to Amazon and see what other things can be upgraded. This tank hobby seems to be addictive LOL

I tell you! I ordered my first one December 31st and now have an Abrams, T-90, Challenger2, Leopard, Bulldog and T-34. Except for the Abrams which I bought from a friend all are all metal with the 360 turret. I want a Mercava and there's talk that HL is coming out with one but may just get the King Tiger while I wait...

                      BTW when I say December 31st. that's just 5 weeks ago! :)
