The battle apples look like the red LED is facing forward,
the IR receivers need to face forward and 90 degrees to the sides, leaving the red LEDs oriented at 45 degrees.

This is a good review for everyone Using the LEGODEI Ir Battle apples.

Having the battle apple twisted 45 degrees makes them very difficult to hit and we consider this improperly set up, it’s like opening up a Tamiya apple and turning the mirror inside which certain people did in the past to cheat with an unfair advantage of not receiving hits beyond 10-20 feet.

please make sure all your battle apples are oriented with the IR receivers facing FORWARD, BACKWARD and to the SIDES.

With the LegoDEI as long as it is ONLY using the 360 sun shade the position of bulbs is not critical and the tank will reliably receive hits from all sides as it should.

If the LegoDEI receivers do not have *one of the bulbs facing to the front of the turret and also is using the 45 degree sunshade then this becomes problematic and gives the tank an overly unfair advantage. This orientation should only be used on WW2 IFA tanks (non block receivers) and the new class of AIM (modern tanks fighting modern tanks). The only other time this configuration should be used is if all parties involved agree to its game use.

*The 45 sunshade can be used IF the LegoDEI receiver has one of the four bulbs facing the front of the turret (inline with the main gun as an example). This then closely mimics the performance of the Tamiya IR receiver.

I am under the impression that all the IR receivers will now be subject to random inspection regardless of Tamiya or LegoDEI. If found out of compliance the tank will be removed from the field until the issues is remedied.

So let’s all make sure our IR receivers and sun shades are set up appropriately to comply with the LA Tank Clubs rules.

Thanks Rubicon, since I only have the early first production run version legodei battle apple I forgot about the 360 shade working properly on an apple that is oriented at 45 degrees forward.
Mine is neither a 45 or a 360 since it was the first batch produced and is discontinued.

Seeing how this battle is historical the largest event of the year in the Western US with usually 20+ attendees and 40-50 tanks on display with numbers of others for battling. I have made my selection of what tanks to brings carefully. Charging batteries and maintenance inspections underway and should be done later in the day. 🤞🤞

I will also be bring two other seasoned IR tank battlers with me so the battle action should be quite hot.

As usual there will be a number of loaner tanks for people to try their hand at.

Here is a hint of just a few of the tanks I will be bring, can you guess what tanks they are......Click image for larger version

I’m just going to bring a whole ton of stuff everybody has already seen except for my top secret AIM class tank.

With the setup of multiple houses, buildings and tanks in our battle, I will probably suffer the crossed eyed syndrome when the day is over .

Four tanks on a twin axle step deck might require O/S permits 🤣🤣
