I'm looking into barrel recoil units for the Taigen/Torro Panther G, and I cant seem to find any that are provided by the company, does anyone know if HL recoil units are compatible with Torro's electronics? and if not what are some recommendations for barrel recoil?

Which version of control their system? You may or may not have one that can work with servo recoil. Or better yet dump the Taigen control system and replace it with a HL 7.1 which can run both (servo and stock) styles HL recoil systems.Originally posted by Tank_Man_11 View PostI'm looking into barrel recoil units for the Taigen/Torro Panther G, and I cant seem to find any that are provided by the company, does anyone know if HL recoil units are compatible with Torro's electronics? and if not what are some recommendations for barrel recoil?

I have one of these units in my Heng Long ZTZ-99. It is quite nice, but as you said it wasn't a straight forward install. Works really well though, but it is quite bulky. I wouldn't use it in a tank with a small turret. Modern tanks would be more suited to using it.Originally posted by Zippersnapper View PostIf your McGiver skills are up to snuff, I bet you could get this to work..

Roger that. More than likely I will be ordering one for another of my current tanks in need of fixing. The Torro barrel elevation/recoil unit sux and doesnt play well with the IBU2. Thanx for the feedback.Originally posted by tank_me View Post

Let me ask, with that servo unit would you be able to run a tube down the barrel? The pics I see dont make that clear.

Thank you my fellow Texan ! I purchased (Along with the IBU2) the barrel smoke / flash kit from Stanlley. I already have one outfited in my King Tiger, and wish to add it to the Jagtiger. The tube for the smoke is a tad over 5mm in diameter. Think I can make it work, even if I have to enlarge the hole? I purchased the unit last night-no turning back now. Looking at your picture, Im thinking I should be good.Originally posted by tank_me View PostI have a Taigen high intensity LED wired into the barrel of the ZTZ so the metal barrel tube slides into the recoil mechanism. There is a hole in the rear of the unit that allows the LED wiring to feed through.

The 6.1s can run servo recoil & elevation as well, albiet without servo reversing. But you already know thatOriginally posted by Rubicon99 View Post

Yup, for a while I used a 6.1 in my HL T-72. The recoil unit was the custom Clark unit made for the T-90. I had to mod it slightly as the apple mount didn't line up correctly, but I got it to work by using a piece of sheet styrene to shift the apple position under what is usually the loader's hatch.Originally posted by Zippersnapper View Post

I did have to get a servo reverser for the recoil in the T-72 using the 6.1. I don't remember which brand I went with though.Originally posted by SoCalBobS View PostJust to jump in...Hobby King sells servo reverser units if you have an issue. Just plug them inline.

The 6.1 is out of production. There are only very limited quantities left. Also the 6.1 systems are not as advanced programming wise as the newer 7.1 systems. Hence why I point people now in the direction of the 7.1.
The only advantage the 6.1 has over the 7.1 is in its option for four different tank sounds vs the two of the 7.1. The 7.1 has far superior sound quality, driving dynamics (of which can be customized by the user), it can turn off the airsoft feature for faster firing of the IR systems, and it has fire on the move capabilities a huge advantage if one IR battles their tank(the 6.1 still must to stop to fire). The 7.1 really just needs the other two sound option in particular the Abrams as it has the most distinctive engine sound of all the tanks.
The one real big negative if you can call it a negative is the 7.1 with is new sound programming and wattage output tends to blow out the stock HL speakers if used about the 3 rd volume setting. With a better after market speaker the sound quality rivals that of Tamiya and in comparison with some of Tamiyas newer tanks surpasses it.
I am keeping my first crossed that HL adds the sounds and also adds a “tank class” protocol similar to Tamiya to the next version so it can final complete directly head to head with Tamiya battle protocols without the need for the 6/6/LP “handicap” battle rules.

Indeed...your correct (always) about the differences in the 2. The 7.1s is WAY more advanced then the 6.1s (why they took a HUGE step backwards with the 7.0 I cant figure out..probably cost savings I'm sure). The 1 thing that rains on my parade about the 7.1s, is they took the radiator fan support away, port CN2. This port is useful not to cool motors or MFU's, but the ability for performance smoke engines, I know, smoke isnt evryones cup of tea, but I dig it.. On the 7.1s they labeled port CN11 as 6v, Servo port CN16 as 3v and Servo port CN15 as 6v....this is useful information.
Rubicon, Im jealous of your inside track knowledge with Henglong. The IDF Merkava you posted about, I pray Henglong offers it with a 7.1s and all metal everything and the correct sound package of course. The olny modern battle tank I have is the Abrams and it needs a brother. Notice just about every tank Toucan offers now is with the crappy 7.0 package? I bet when they wake up and realize sales have "Tanked" they will get the picture. Speaking of servo's, I have coming 3 Savox SAVSH0264MG high speed micro servos to be used ONLY for barrel recoil. I'm hoping for a "fast" barrel retraction upon firing. Thoughts?

I use pretty generic servos in my HL conversations and they recoil faster then the ones supplied with my more recent Tamiya tanks. Some of that probably has to do with the recoil units gear set up more then the servo. I am pretty sure you will be happy with the recoil speed of the servos you are installing.Originally posted by Zippersnapper View Post
