  • We are heading to the battle this morning. I will give my brief answers. I like markings on my tanks. I built tank models since 1990. Putting decals on is part of the fun and for me... tanks look nicer to my eyes with markings on them.

To play with modern tanks, we will have 2 events per years for modern tank battle just for our members only; no guest. WWII tanks are small and easy to be maneuver for the new young guests. Normally it takes me two trips to bring all the tanks and props to the battlefield. The box that contains the small tank only costs $15 and the one for the modern tank costs almost $30. Also there is not much room in my garage to store these big tool boxes. I bring 20-24 tanks to the battlefield for each event. So spaces in my SUV can't handle modern tanks. Modern tanks might make some of these new guest people relate to the war in Ukraine. I want to stay away from that too.

    • Btw, a few members notified me that they couldn't see the online article about our Club in the LA TIMES. They do not subscribe it and could not get to it. Here is the actual article in the newspaper....

Why do you not remove the markings from all the tank? I only say this as the organisation that runs a large marine battle over this side of the pond had to remove the British flags and markings as well as the German ones. They like you now just use the red force and an unnamed enemy.. Secondly are you considering modern tanks as they would be more relevant to younger people? Mind, I am biased towards modern tanks. Wished we had something over here like you have, but I am afraid people, here seem more interested in destroying or belittling any new ventures.
Irvine tank club focuses on new player and smaller WW2 tanks like Sherman's and T34 as "club loaners" for guests. These are easier to use as introductory tanks and more reliable (tracks stay on better).

There are three clubs in California, Irvine is just one. The other two LA and San Diego have lots of modern and Cold War tanks being used and theme battles surrounding them. San Diego tank club with its huge field does modern and Cold War themed battles four or five times a year. These events draw the more experienced players and are typically not suitable for new player with basic stock tanks.

Irvine tank is putting in A LOT of hard work and the members of the other clubs all salute and support their efforts.

Aye fair do’s. I guess I should not have even asked, as I am probably 5000k away so will not be attending. One tends to forget the practical side of organising events and encouraging younger persons into the hobby. Different countries and different approaches. I still salute what you are achieving.

          • Thank you everyone! We had a blast today too. We had kids on the German side and the adults on the Russian side. The German won many battles but also took a toll on the damages.

                      • David looks like a great time.

Curious how your clubs handle de-tracking during a round? Is a tank that is de-tracked stuck in position till the round ends? Or is there a time penalty, or "time out" or pause in the round and then able to be fixed and finish the round? Or are you just able to fix the tank whenever and able continue the round?

Same as in SD, you stay still and continue fighting by using your gun but you are sitting duck. When you are knocked out, go get another tank and get ready for the next round. Leave the de-tracked tank there to be used as prop.

                                    • We brought in 6 brand new HL tanks. And they were all gone by the end of the event. And of course we cared for our new members; we wanted them to enjoy playing with us, so we sold the tanks to them the same prices that we bought :-)
