  • Combining Cannon Flash/smoke with a 360-turret rotation

Thinking about adding cannon flash and smoke to HL Abrams 6.0S with 360o-turret rotation.
With the turret having unlimited rotations, will this be an issue with the new wires connected to the MFU or are they connected in a way that shouldn't cause any issues?

Yes Hardrock, the wires will be an issue if you spin the turret like a top, more importantly the rubber hose for the smoke. Because the wires are not runnng through the slip ring, they will eventually bind up and break away. Many of us, including myself, do away with the slip ring altogether as it causes more headache than it cures. You dont see tanks in the real world spinning the turret around and around so no need to do it scaled down. The simple rule of thumb, is maybe one or two rotations in one direction, followed by the same amount in the opposite. HOWEVER, when your running a tube down the barrel, I would limit myself to MAYBE just one rotation if that. Any more then you invite trouble. Think how a turret is used in a real battle, and mimick that.

        Zippersnapper,
Wouldn't there be enough room to install both the cannon flash and the smoke unit in the turret?

Depends on the size of the turret and barrel. PZ3 50mm gun...no. KV-2 152mm gun...yes. You get the idea.

The OP was talking about a HL Abrams. There should be plenty of room in the turret of that model for the cannon smoke unit, right?

I seriously doubt it. The cannon smoke unit not only consists of the heater tank, but also the cylindrical smoke pump...combined, its quit bulky. But what the heck-go for it? I have the Abrams myself...If He's able to cram it all in there, lets see it !!
              .
Like Tank said, The KV-2, Yea. The Jagdtiger, probably. Even the Jagdpather is a strong maybe. Others....doubtful.

I thought I saw something useful for the OP from awhile back on YT. I was so proud of myself. Then I reviewed it and saw your comment on it below about the price. I never looked at their site or the price before. They definitely need to include a case of KY for that. Oh well.

It looked like a decent setup. Does anyone offer it for less than the price of another new RC tank?

You tube video was very good on showing that install. So good, I decided to order two of those cannon smoke/flash units from the Ebay site provided by "Zippersnapper". I'll put one of them in my Leopard 2A6!

Speaking of Leopard. Not finished as a few more upgrade parts working through customs but Servo Recoil installed along with Barrel Smoke & Flash. This ones running the Canshuo TK26 system
