  • Tamiya Sherman is returning to production in 2024

Well like the title says and most of us suspected, the Tamiya Sherman will be re-released in 2024 as a 50th Anniversary Edition. The Scalemates site already has the re-release in 2024 "with new parts" on their site and I guess the announcement was made at the Nuremburg Toy Show.

Tamiya rc model kit in scale 1:16, 56014 is a rebox released in 2001 | Contents, Previews, Reviews, History + Marketplace | M4 Sherman | EAN: 4950344560141

Looks like that link broke or isn't working, but you can go here and scroll WAY down to find the Sherman: https://tamiyablog.com/2024/

I can no longer visit or sign-in to the the Tamiya USA website. It is blocked by a news letter sign up window that cannot be removed.

In addition to the Sherman, Tamiya also listed Centurion Mk3, Tiger 1, King Tiger, Leopard 2A6 and Abrams as the 1/16 RC tanks to be re-released in 2024.

All the rest were already in current production as in they were never discontinued. The Sherman was actually discontinued.

It appears they kept the ridiculously old outdated style two piece DMD/MFU and did not upgrade the M4 to the newest all digital DMD 11 as they had talked about a few years ago before the Sherman left the market. DMD 11 would have given us servo recoil and servo elevation not to mention LED flash. This vs the outdated ballast type flash that burns out easily, no recoil and only basic lifting arm elevation similar to what HL uses.

The price point when the Sherman left the market about two years ago was right around $500. I bet the price will be twice that for the new release. But hey we are getting some new etched parts....

Don't get me wrong I am happy the Sherman is coming back but I wish they had followed through with the updates they talked about.

Cool, maybe this will drop the price on the abandoned second-hand ones skulking around on Marketplace ;-)
              Sherman M4A3 105mm Houwitser / Sherman Firefly IC *under construction* / Panzer IV *awaiting side-grade from TK7.0S to TK6.0S* / Stug III / King Tiger / KV-1 *awaiting upgrade to TK6.0S* / Tiger I / T34-85 / Leopard 2A6 *waiting upgrade to TK7.0*... No, I do not have a problem....

Since the price of the new kit is going to be higher, I doubt it.

Given the MSRP it would be really nice to get updated electronics and we can hope but the pictures on that page show the old two piece DMD/MFU. 😐 I'll probably buy one regardless, then again I can get 2 or maybe more used ones for that price and pretty much wind up in the same place.

You could buy a henglong Sherman, my hvss kit and T23 turret and have an ez8 that will run just as good and cost you half as much

If I do buy one of the Tamiya 50th Anniversary M4 105s it would be because I don't own a Tamiya yet and if I'm going to, it'll be an M4. Funny you should mention the Henglong Sherman and your HVSS Kit. I already own both. 😉 Just haven't had the opportunity to install it yet until now. I've set aside the whole upcoming weekend to do just that. For the T23 turret I have one of Nick Aguilar's M4A1 (76)W kits but I have been eyeballing your T23 turret as well. Is it ready to go? How's the M4A1 hull coming along?

Is there an affordable nylon track for the EZ8 Sherman?

They are included with RichJohnsons HVSS Kit.

My hvss kit comes with henglong Pershing track which runs good.
if you wanted it to run even better Tamiya Sherman track would run even better since it’s true double pin.
im excited it’s coming back because I like buying the parts and tracks.

The turrets are ready. I’m building up the first few turrets that are on hand right now. So the base turret will be assembled and functional and you will perform the light sanding. And model kit completion of it.

Im basically waiting for the 7.1 mfu to arrive to I can zero all the servos out and set them up and perform the function test before I sell them.
They will be $145 plus tax and shipping.

The T23 Rich developed is far superior to Nicks kit. I have seen Rich"s first hand and have one on order.

I thought I was going to get into the Tamy Sherman re-release but am I right or wrong? Is it only the 105 howitzer version? Why can't they do the 75mm? I understand why Heng Long doesn't with the BB thing. This Tamy kit I'd consider but Not the 105 I can get that from a HL for a lot less and struggle with the fidelity.
