  • 1/18 RC Steyr 1500a

Ordered one of these. Should be here in about a month and naturally I'll do a video when it arrives. I got the upgraded version for about $93 w/free shipping, so it has all the bells and whistles, like lights, sound, smoke, and some really cool steering. You can steer the model front only, rear only, or front and rear for tight turns, and front and rear side to side so it does that fancy diagonal turn like some cars do for changing lanes. The base model is at banggood for about $71 so if you order make sure you get the upgraded model. All those features for an extra $20 would be a shame to pass on.

If anyone else has or has ordered one of these please speak up.

This isn't mine, but here's a video of this thing in action

There's also a good video on banggood's website, at the link above in Post #1.

It's on my radar too. So are those steering modes authentic? You getting grey or tan?

Looks like a lot of fun. When it arrives, pose it next to a 1/16 tank so we can see the size comparison.
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Mine will be tan, but due to the cheesy markings it will have to be painted. The steering is for real, you can see it in the video above.

The decals are applied by you. It comes blank, at least in video and images I've seen. A good thing.

That would be cool. I have too much stuff waiting to be painted as it is.

Well, I got one, but.......the controller is DOA. So now I commence the trial of dealing with Banggood for a replacement. The horror!

Anyway, it is billed as 1/18 scale, and probably is. but it looks fairly acceptable next to a Panzer III.

I think I remember Sgt Oddball running his tank over one of those in "Kelly's Heroes". 😁

I am inwinceable! I've gotten this little b-ard to work. All I had to do is disassemble the controller and wiggle all the plugs and contacts. Also, the car battery comes uncharged. And, there isn't a mention how to start the car itself.
One opens the hood, and there is a tiny button on the receiver to push on and off. A diagram shows that button, but until you figure out the hood opens by reading the manual (who does that?) you got no power.

So, for those of you who haven't scoured the web for info on this item while waiting for it to arrive, it's bizarre product! Underneath a diecast body there is a rock crawler chassis; four wheel drive and four wheel steering options; front, both and rear.

When steering, there is a turn signal sound, although no lights for that. There is an authentic WW2 German back up beep when going backwards.
The dashboard is lit. Rubber tires. Upgrade parts - metal driveshafts and different shock absorbers. Oh, and a smoking exhaust.

Lots of accessory parts. One feature is notable; although it has a gloss standard diecast finish, the color is almost identical to Tamiya's DAK 1942 Light Brown.

Anyway, it's a fun toy. It took two weeks from Banggood. By the way, there are two versions. It's the upgrade version that has all this stuff.

                    Good job Bob!
Does it come with any German markings, or just the ones on the website?

No, nothing from the period. However, Dragon Hobbies on eBay sells a set of 1:16 Kubelwagens that have license plates and other markings.

I just looked at Bangood's website again and I see the Steyr is available in a camo version that appears to have proper German markings but is an extra $20. Pretty cool looking though.

                        Steve.

Some photos of the real thing and prelim shots of mine:

The interior upholstery and folded top are black in this car. The interior itself is tan, as are the clearance whiskers.

The doors are like the real ones, what we called "suicide doors". The headlights, whiskers, front bumper, floor boards and turn semaphores are black. Could stand a repaint I guess. The pennants, whiskers and semaphores are made of soft rubber, to reduce driving damage.

I very rapidly experienced the difference between tracked and wheeled vehicles; tire spinning, hi-siding where tanks simply roll along. Reminds me of my 4x4 days!

Tracking says mine is in California, but I think it's still at customs. I should have it within a week or 2.

I just ordered the upgraded camo version yesterday. Hope to get it the first week of August.
For those that already have one, is there any way to easily remove the windows when the top is down?
It would look better that way in my opinion.

                                        Steve. 😀
