One of my road wheels came off and I want to reattach it with the screw but there doesn't appear to be a seam on the hubcap, do I pry the two halves apart or is there another way?

I have a Torro metal lower chassis of the German Leopard 2A6. The hubcap is an integral part of the outer half of the road wheel. The inner half of the road wheel is attached to the swing arm by a screw first. The outer half is attached to the inner road wheel by 2 tiny screws.

This wheel is attached to the suspension by a screw through the middle of the wheel, there are no other screws. The screw is under by the hubcap but I am not sure if that needs to be taken off ( no seam showing, see pic ) or it comes apart another way....

Is yours the Torro road wheel for the Torro tank or the Torro road wheel for the Heng Long tank? For the German Leopard, they are completely different design.

Torro use both press fit and screw attachment on their road wheel. I have first hand experience with both and strongly dislike the press fit design. Both approach work fine when running the RC tank indoor on smooth surface. On outdoor rough terrain, the press fit road wheel falls off the tank without warning. It is not acceptable unless you never run the tank outdoor.

If you run the tank on rough ground regularly, I also suggest that you check the swing arm attachment to the chassis periodically. The bouncing of the suspension on uneven surface can get the M3 mounting screws loose.

Not here to discuss the types of road wheels on Torro/Taigen, only to clarify for the OP. Press-fit in this case only applies to the outer road wheel, the inner one is screwed on.

Thanks all, it was pressed fit and I finally got them apart... Now trying to get them pressed back together again.. UGH!

Has anyone used glue to hold the outside wheel on? if so, what kind? The press fit wheel just doesn't want to stay on after being pressed on the back wheel.

Do you consider a hot glue gun? It is strong yet easy to remove in case of repair. CA glue is too permanent.

Thanks, didn't consider it but it might work, just wonder how it would last with heavier outdoor use of the tank.. I was fortunate that the wheel came off where it was easy to find....

I did use the hot glue gun but it was a royal pain to apply as it dries very quickly... Still looking for something better

Torro's road wheels are fitted with both press fit and screw attachments. I have firsthand knowledge of both and strongly despise the press fit design. When running the RC tank indoors on a smooth surface, both approaches work well. The press fit road wheel slips off the tank unexpectedly when used on rocky terrain.

I have very similar, but worse experience with Torro metal road wheels. They use press fit on the road wheel that they market for the HL RC tank upgrade. The press fit road wheel lasted only a few minutes in my basement test run.

I eventually upgraded to an all metal Torro lower chassis for the Leopard 2A6; It is an expensive upgrade, but well worth it.
