  • M113 variants by Tongde

Just posted on Facebook, no release date yet, but soon I'm sure! IR capability is listed, but I don't see emitter ports on these pics except on the MRV.

The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

Crazy part is Rich of RichJohnsModels N Stuff has an M113 by DKLMRC and had already started working up a modem accessories package for the M113s. So by the time these arrive people can upgrade the horrible back packs, rolls and add a TOW launcher for IR battling.

Makes one wonder what Rich knew a while ago he was not telling anyone.

      Those'll definitely be worthwhile upgrades!

My contact at TD says that production is right now. Packaging is not final yet.
he would not speak to pricing.
It’s going to be some time before they are ready.

I enjoy ferreting out details from pre-production photos. In this case, I'm interested in how TD will implement IR capability, specifically the IR emitter without elevation and rotation functionality. One possibility is a fixed bulb facing forwards. On the left headlight cluster, there is a third bulb slightly inset. Did the real M113's have three lights on the left side? Thoughts/opinions?

its Blackout convoy driving light, which puts a white line in the ground in total darkness to show road profile in front, then an IR driving light for night vision, then a headlight.

Thanks. I wonder if they'll place the IR emitter there.

I would think standard APC would not have IR.

!/16 scale electric remote control models do, per TD's spec sheet!

So it looks like my 21st Century Toys version will have to soldier on a little longer.

Idle minds......so, the M113 has multiple variants. Here's something to think about that may not have immediately come to mind; an "inspired by" version, made possible with some fanciful 3DP decorations, if some were available!

DKLMRC has posted a box opening video on Youtube of the three variants. He speaks in Cantonese, with a promise to add an English dub soon. He predicts a late September or October availability. He also replied to my question regarding IR capability "yes", although I cannot for the life of me see where an emitter eould be.

On 8/26 I looked on AliExpress and it shows the items for sale; $120+$134 shipping. Given DKLM's comments, I wouldn't trust such a listing.

They are not ready for distribution yet.
there may be changes made, not clear yet.
I can now confirm the Tongde rep is sending me a 113 ACAV metal variant to review and demonstrate.

Wow, the M113 variants by Tongde look absolutely fascinating! I'm really curious about how these models compare to other tanks in terms of durability and functionality. Do you think their design influences RC enthusiasts' interest in historical military vehicles? I'd love to hear more thoughts on that dynamic!

                                Check out this active thread:
I received my dealer sample of the new Tongde M113 today from DKLM. What a great RC model. Details to note, metal edition has bearings in the arms and wheels, rubber tires, metal tranys. Smoker for exhaust. IR projector in the blackout light, inner light driver side. I am currently working out the logistical options to import

The metal editions run great. Some people swap the tracks to plastic like we do with the m60 but so far it has not been necessary like it is with the m60.
the 113 runs good performs well has lots of potential for upgrades and modifications. I produce 3 modification kits for the 113 as well as many detail upgrades.
i still have one modern M113A2 metal edition in stock too.
