  • Question about 7.0 main board fried and 7.1

    Hello,
I was experimenting with the cannon firing function because it wasn't working properly, and I accidentally plugged it into the wrong port, which caused my main board to start smoking. I quickly removed the battery—something I should have done before tinkering with the board. Unfortunately, it’s now non-functional, so I need to get a new board. I'm considering whether to upgrade to a 7.1 board, but I have a couple of concerns. First, will it connect with my 7.0 transmitter? Second, the connection point for the wire that links to the battery looks different from my 7.0 board. Is there an adapter available, or will I need to solder?

You will need to get a 7.1 transmitter. There are adaptors for battery connections.

Can you identify the TK7.1 function you want from the upgrade? If not, stick with the TK7.0 which is cheaper and more reliable. Just remember not to connect any port incorrectly.

Which HL RC tank do you have? If you still want to upgrade to TK7.1, you will need to also upgrade the tank canon to servo barrel recoil unit. The TK7.0 transmitter works fine with the TK7.1 MFU. You just need to bind them one more time.

Heng Long evolved the battery connector from Tamiya plug to T-connector to XT60. Adaptors are cheap and readily available, but shipping for single item mail order is not cheap. When you order the new MFU, tell the seller what battery plug do you have and ask them to quote you the adaptor needed. If you still use the short running HL OEM battery, you may upgrade to better battery with the correct connector.

He doesn't "need" to get a 7.1 transmitter. The 7.0 transmitter works fine with the 7.1 MFU unless he wants to use the extra servo function beyond recoil and elevation.

You are correct. For FULL function of the 7.1 MFU you WILL need the 7.1 transmitter.

Since we are on this subject, Can anyone share with me on what exactly does the 7.1 transmitter can do? I have been using the 7.0 transmitter on my 7.1 boards. So I wonder what is the difference between the 7.1 and 7.0 transmitter. Thank you!

7.1 transmitter has one of its trim tabs actually move, not just a molded part of the case. It’s the bottom right one. You can use it to control a function. I use mine to control a servo that traverses the commanders cupola on my M60.
The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

I use a 7.1 transmitter on my M1128 MGS wheeled vehicle. The trim acts as an actual trim on that vehicle for the wheels.
