I was at SW Jet Rally in Waco, TX this weekend and watched a dealer open a box to an HSD Foamy Thunderbird F-16 and start assembly. In three hours, he was flying it. Very impressive flight although I doubt it's as durable as a composite.

Andy sent me a photo of his new F16 T-Bird from this event and told me it flew very well....(one you are talking about)Originally posted by Patrnflyr View PostI was at SW Jet Rally in Waco, TX this weekend and watched a dealer open a box to an HSD Foamy Thunderbird F-16 and start assembly. There is a lot to say for the foam turbine jets, plus they are less expensive to start out. :0}

The x45 is smaller and lighter than the P20, so that could really also be used in 70mm EDF's, but it seems a bit of mission to get a decent amount of fuel into them, and anywhere you can fly a 70mm, you can fly a 90mm so it feels like a bit of a waste maybe...? dunno, lets see what happens in the future

I figured I'd revive the thread as I can't help but wonder if Motion RC is venturing into turbine jets. After seeing Motion begin to offer products in other aspects of the RC hobby, such as tanks and construction vehicles (maybe we will begin to also see cars, boats, submarines, etc.), I would imagine turbine jets could potentially be a consideration as well. I see a branching out of sors to become more versatile, and maybe the goal for Motion is to become a one-stop-shop of sorts for RC needs.
It would be fun to see some turbine conversion kits available (and/or turbine ready aircraft) for the Black Horse Model jet(s) that Motion RC now sells (maybe Motion could even be involved in helping Black Horse Model design other aircraft with turbine use in mind as well), foam Freewing jets, and hopefully even composite jets in the near future.
Maybe considerations like this are already in progress behind the scenes and we don't know it yet.....or maybe not
.
I thought maybe I'd see some of the fiberglass/balsa Sebart jets offered at Motion RC considering they have worked with the company before to create various foam models like the Avanti S and F-104. It hasn't happened, at least not yet.

I have converted and flown the FW F22, FW Avanti 80mm, Avios Mig 17 and currently working on the L39 and Venom.
So far 100% success with the X45. I have had some conversations with MRC but after the initial chat there has been no follow up by James or anyone else.
I think the reward/risk value as a vendor is not worth it, at this time. Nevertheless, there are excellent and successful conversion packages available in Europe for many of the FW line. Lots of excellent threads on RC Groups and in the
microturbine group on Facebook.

Alpha hints of this in the black Horse thread L39.
“Deceptively quick and some of you are right, it's a worthy candidate for turbine conversion. In fact subscribe to this thread for more news on that front.”
Too bad it’s a medium blue which I’d have an impossible time keeping oriented and that it uses Oracover. Perfect for younger flyers with an EDF and better vision. I noticed there’s a red, white and black one on their website. Maybe, they’ll consider getting that if it’s popular. He did say it was sheeted so glassing wouldn’t be a problem.

I'm optimistic about it, for sure
. It would be a treat to see turbine offerings from a company like Motion, who I have enjoyed buying products from over the years. Once they carry turbine jets and/or accessories, I'll be able to purchase those items from them too. I do hope though that when they continue growing and branching out, that the same principles/values remain the same and so does the customer service.
I'll be receiving my X45 next week and it will be installed in the Sebart Mini Avanti, which I'm looking forward to trying with that power application. It's a great engine and so is the aircraft.

Out of the two colors schemes offered in that Black Horse Model L-39, I'm not sure why the blue was chosen over the red checkered. I know it's personal preference, but if they offer only one, the red color scheme looks significantly better. Maybe they'll offer both, and that could be the plan. I'm not very likely to purchase any Black Horse Model jets yet as I'm not stricken by any jets in their current line-up. I posted a question in the L-39 thread asking if Motion RC will be also teaming up with Black Horse Model to help create new jet aircraft, and hopefully ones that lend well to turbine use. I'm not sure if it's worth the venture, but Black Horse Model and Motion can figure that out.Originally posted by Patrnflyr View PostToo bad it’s a medium blue which I’d have an impossible time keeping oriented and that it uses Oracover. I have the Sebart mini BAE Hawk and it has lots of room for the X45 check out my first photos and trial fitting photos. I measured my jet to have Grumania custom dual wall pipe. This will be ready to fly in the spring. I am looking forward for MRC to add turbine options and aircraft! Let's all hope they are getting ready to announce more great projects for us to considerOriginally posted by T-CAT View PostI'm optimistic about it, for sure

. Yeah, this little engine is small but extremely mightly. There is massive room in the jet and I love that Sebart designed it with turbine use in mind. I'll be cautious with throttle usage in the right conditions as the airframe was not designed with this much power in mind, but having extra power to accelerate out of slow flight and maneuvers can be a lot of fun and worthwhile. I have a 1.3L tank, which isn't needed, and it won't be filled fully all the time, but it's nice to know I'll have the ability to have over 10 minute flights rather easily, and land at a lower weight than EDF would allow for.

I still have my JPX240 turbine kit new in the box. :)Originally posted by Patrnflyr View PostAs some of you already know, we've been discussing this in a different thread:https://www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/rc...ne-conversions
I finally broke down and bought another turbine, the K30. We'll be embarking on something entirely new since our turbine models start at 120 size and have gone up to 200 sized before. We only have four at the present time and have been flying since the early 90's. Watched the propane JPX change the industry to what we have now.
I hope to be putting this eventually a Havoc Xe but will wait for the conversion kit. For now, we'll be modifying an FW F-22 and see how that goes. Learn on the way. Lots of advice on our thread for conversions.
It would be nice to have turbine ready models also as this thread addresses.
my partner died and I never had the heart to finish our yellow aircraft F18. I saw your post and it brought back some memories.
maybe some collector out there would like to buy it.
great topic!!
