Let me add my congratulations to you both as well! It really sounds like you had a great time, and makes me want to get out there and try it too.

As Rocketeer noted, we are all looking forward to seeing your photos and stories from that trip.

    Well done!

Thanks guys, just got home and settling in.  It was an amazing time, just the trip home while reviewing what we did and how we did it and how we're going to proceed from here.
Just going to upload the pictures and then resize them, so give me an hour and I'll be back.
Again, I'll say with 110% conviction, the BEST $699 I have spent on this hobby.

Okay, first off, I'm not pointing fingers at anyone.
When learning to fly, it is essential to fly the pattern. Walk out on the runway and pick a point that lines up with the run way, then pick one at the other end, these are your reference points that you will turn at when you fly over them.  Take off using about half elevator. once airborne, aim the plane at your first point. Get a comfortable altitude and throttle back to slightly less than half throttle.  When over your first target, right aileron, back to neutral and pull elevator.  Do not hold in aileron. If the nose tends to drop, pull more elevator, if it tends to climb, pull less.   Fly your base leg down to the next target trim as necessary on base leg and turn again.  This should bring you out over the runway.  If not, don't adjust your average turn, move your pattern inwards or outwards to bring the plane over the runway with the next circuit.  For instance if you came out of your turn and you were to the right of the runway, adjust your final turn to the left of your final, target.  Use slight bumps to correct.  Aim the airplane towards you.  You are the final target, them bump it in towards your runway.  As you are standing in front of your runway, its easy to place your plane on the runway by doing this.  When landing, throttle back on base leg and bleed off some altitude, a LEVEL turn to final, line up with yourself, bump inwards (if doing right hand turn patterns, bump right) reduce throttle, judge when to go to idle, keep your direction on course, fly the plane's mass not its nose ( vital to remember in a cross wind landing).  Use your elevator to extend your glide. If you have to touch your throttle up and back a bit, but slower than revving your motor, you don't want to climb, in a trainer, probably not necessary, but keep it in mind.  Hold in that small amount of elevator to control descent  She touches down as almost an after thought, a few feet in front of you, not half way across the field.  Try it.  I just did it for five days, it works.

It's all in Dave's manual, I suggest picking it up

Just got back from flying the Waco in a 20 mph wind.  She flew well, did a cross wind landing and  a nose wind landing.  Of course, she crabs when landing cross wind, but that's to be expected, just fly the mass, not the nose.  Wouldn't want any more wind on a small airplane, but she was ok.  Remember that this is the plane that I could even take off a couple of weeks ago, now, with about half elevator and three quarters throttle. I just go from zero to three quarters like now and be ready with right rudder, but she's in the air so quickly, I didn't really need it unless taking off crosswind.  I have my aileron/rudder mix at -35, seems pretty good.  Has to be negative numbers in a Spektrum to get the rudder to go in the right direction for some reason.  Gives you a great axial roll, the 'flying like its on rails' thing.  Actually its eliminating adverse yaw, which is the reason you have a rudder.

Thanks Bill, means a lot coming from you as we go way back, back to page one on this thread.
Just got back from some evening flights before the storm blew in.  It was a no wind situation that we just had to take advantage of.  Besides, what a great way to spend and evening.  Diane buddy boxed with me on P2 which is her plane, after last week I figured she deserved her own.  First time flying a low wing and Pandoras are a little snappier than the Low and Slow.  'Course it helps if I turned down the rates!  Had it on 100% and she still did well.  Once we had the buddy box in sync, it was smooth flying.
By the way, we went up to the Cody airfield, which is not in the greatest shape, but not as bad as I thought it was.
So, now I have to get the Mustangs into the air, which is not a problem, even flying them around (at least the B model) is a thing of beauty, I just have that tapered semi symmetrical wing to deal with.  They tend to tip stall so I have to watch my landing approach, I tend to want to throttle back a little further than I should, so I'll keep it a little hotter and see what happens.  (How's that for tech talk Bill?)
Anyway, Dave dubbed us "Team Gross"
Thinking of getting t shirts made (LOL)

Just realized its been a year since I joined the site!  Wow, what a change a year can make, can anyone even remember the old forum?
Next month will be a year since I started this thread, so I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has contributed and followed.  Its been a great year guys and gals, and I'm looking forward to the next.  Signed up for 1St U.S. R/C Flight School's aerobatics course for June 6, 2016, looking forward to that (does anyone still start the year with '19' when spelling out a date?  OLD GUY, I know)
Looks like the weather is going to be good tomorrow so the Mustang goes back up.  Just got three more sets of Admiral 2200 Pros and three of the 3600 Pros so lots of flight time as I'm up to 11x2200 and 6x3600.  Of course, now that the wife is flying, I have to have more batteries, right?

Not sure what I was to order, but just got two more chargers, since charging a dozen or so batteries takes a long time.
I have a notification on the Pitts with MRC as their price is better.

Diane and I buddy boxed today and wow she did great.  Remember that this is a gal with about 5 hours total flying time under her belt and still working on a phobia. I get it up in the air and turn it over to her so she can try some circuits.  She flies down, hits her mark and turns, flies back, hits her mark and turns. She does this five times, not once am I taking over the plane, just holding in the button.  Man, wish I was that good with that few hours under my belt.  She just has to get her confidence caught up to her skill level, then look out.  I figure another couple of outings, then she can start bringing her pattern down lower and the next thing you know, she's on the ground.  I mean, she's hitting her marks and bringing it right down the runway, talk about accuracy.

Had the P 51B back up this morning as well.  Did fairly well, the landing was a little bumpy, but ok.  Loaded a battery on her and was all set to blast off again.  "Whoa", says I, "preflight first!"  I'm very strict about this.  Battery charged, yup, controls working, check, flaps, good, landing gear cycling?  Goes up into the wells, drop it back down, one gear doesn't come down.  Cycle it a couple of times, nothing.  Back in the truck she goes.  If I hadn't done a proper and thorough preflight, I'd have been taking home pieces.
I have caught three things with the same plane now, before resuming flying.  The prop was working its way off the shaft one time, then I noticed that the prop blades were working loose.  Easy to fix, disastrous to miss.

Lets face it guys, there's usually people around when we're flying and the last thing you want to have is a prop that gets launched from your plane in mid flight and it hits someone, just because we were in a hurry to fly.  Not to mention the embarrassment of having a retract failure and having to belly in.
If its a maiden flight, taxi her around for a few minutes and check it again, make sure nothing lot loose.

By the way, got her home and got the retract off.  It worked fine, I have noticed that if you get Sean's retract mod, you don't do them up super tight, snug works best as it seems to cause some resistance in the retract mechanism.  So, I put it back on the plane, works then doesn't.  Turns out that one of the front screws that holds the gear on doesn't like to be super tight as well.  I found the sweet spot by trial and error and cycled it multiple times.  Works great.
By the way, I'd highly recommend Sean's retract mod ( code name Stoopid Monkey).
