I got my retracts installed with my bracket system. Here are pics... Video to come shortly. With them screwed down and the braces screwed to the retract this should distribute the pressure through the metal more than directly to the plastic.

Here's another idea for the FMS retract issue. Make something like the FW P-51 has on their retracts.  I've had many landings with my Iron Ass, to include some very hard landings on rough grass and hard surface landing strips, with no issues.(see photo)

Just finished getting my Snoot's back together! I somehow ended up with a Petie's 2nd decal sheet so I took advantage and used some of the stickers on my plane. I think it looks a little more finished this way. All I have to do is set up control surfaces, put the prop/ spinner on and I will be flying her again!

I am at the field right now, the wind is on and off. I went to take my P -51 out of my Denali when I bumped my prop and something moved! My motor must have broke loose in the crash, I did not notice it before! So I sit here watching the wind blow on a remote flying field waiting for epoxy to cure, good thing is by the time this has cured enough there will be no wind according to weather bug.

Does anyone know can you run 6s with the stock 4250 580kv motor. With stock prop. I upgrade esc and would like to know. Thanks

You will burn up the stock motor on 6s. But the stock motor is the 4250 540kv, if you upgrade to the 580 you can run 5s, some say you run a risk blowing the spiner/ prop assembly apart on 6s. There is a zip tie mod you do to your prop assembly that will also give you more thrust, you can find info on that in the rcgroups.com forum.

No (insert sad face here) I sat at the field all alone for 2 hours watching the epoxy do its "5 min." cure, waiting for the wind to die down. Neither happened, but I did get some cool pics! I will go back this weekend and see if things change. I am just glad that I noticed the motor moving before I tried to fly her again. OH and I will maiden my T-28 too.

Got to fly my Stang today! She flew wonderful! I had a blast I took 3 planes with me got to fly 2, the T-28 suffered a broken prop shaft while I was putting the prop on for the first time (at the field). Oh and I got to test my retract braces, I was on final about 3 feet from the ground had a cross wind pick up the right wing and I bounced the plane HARD into ground. I have done a similar thing and broke the retracts, today they stayed together not even a crack! I am so happy I found this field. The wife tried to record the flights but she gave up, she says "I was flying too fast" I will see if I can salvage any of the footage for a montage.

Yay!! Perseverance finally pays off, good for you Sean, and nice to know that the braces work great as well, although I can imagine the P factor was at  high during this little maneuver!!

The plane is in pretty bad shape, and no the way the plane acted the first flight and what happened today was totally different. i was able to control the plane on maiden and as you can see on the video I worked the bugs out of it. The BEC came disconnected from the ESC on this flight. I did not get to the ESC until I was home. Ill try to post pictures.

this is the ESC and BEC I found the BEC under my battery tray when i got home and was checking over the plane.

Sry to hear about your mishap.
I just got the Freewing OLD CROW P-51D. Do you know if the same ESC is used on both the FMS and Freewing?
Got me nervous about mine now.

Basic answer is no.
Freewing uses two different amp rated ESC's (80 and 60) depending on which version you got(with/without merlin sound).
FMS uses a 70A ESC on most of the 1400 sized birds and the 1450 mustangs.
