Corsair Fans?

Arggh. That's terrible! :(

A good mate of mine has the 1/6th skymaster turbine f16 thunderbird (the one in the vid on my YouTube), and that one owed him 15k and was lost to a faulty temp sensor, thinking the turbine overheated and shut everything down. It was way too far from the strip to dead stick back in (these are very heavy models too), and got destroyed by a tree. You could hear a pin drop at our club when it happened. Obviously was his pride and joy, I felt so bad for him.

That's the other reason I haven't gone for a turbine or something like the corsairs yet. I have a real problem losing that sort of investment, to a mechanical or parts failure.

I just got the Dynam Corsair, have yet to fly it, but it does have a really nice finish. My very first warbird was the GWS Corsair. It was a great flying little plane, I just remembered it was a plane you had to fly down, and keep the speed up even though I built mine extremely light. But in the end she was my old trusty go to bird, always worked, never failed.

I had the elite Corsair and didn't care that much for it. It's not at all scale, takes off really wacky and doesn't have that much power. So, I flew it with a 4S and that gave it much more speed and power. Lands good and mechanically everything is very good.

Just if you're looking for a scale Corsair, go with FMS or something similar.

The Eflite 1.2M Corsair? The scale line looked pretty good to me for an F4U-4. Only thing I didn't like was the tiny prop, but that same issue is present on the FMS Corsairs as well. The 15" prop from the airfield 1450mm Corsair would be perfect size for it though, especially with an FMS 580kv motor. Could also use gear doors and a tail retract, but all of those things can be modded.

Never did get the H9 60 Corsair...I almost pulled the trigger and went with the HSD F-16 instead. I wish the H9 60 was electric-friendly. I may still have to snag one this next Winter.

Here's my old FMS 1700mm...Detailed her out...Looked like a composite in fact some guys that had H9 Corsairs wanted to know what composite it was...They were floored when they got close enough to realize it was foam. :D

Looks great! I've been dragging my feet on the H9 Corsair myself. Maybe some day. I'd go with the FG84 though just for the sound. So many planes, so little time....

The Phoenix Corsair is a nice balsa plane and you can trick it out a little. Rimfire .80 motor on 6S power flies great with a Eagletree Guardian. I dropped an airbrushed Williams Bros radial in with aluminum pushrods and spark plug wires. Callie Graphics in Skyboss Livery and a Warbird Pilots scale flyer who's head turns left and right with the rudder. Sweeet. 1400mm Corsair propeller from Motion on her too.

Nice job with your Phoenix Corsair! Looks sweet! Man I need to up my game. I am running a Power 60 470Kv on a monster Biela 17x10x3 prop with Castle 100A ESC on 6S 4000 60C. Ran it up on the wattmeter and as I figured, at WOT she was at 114 amps. Eeesh. Flew it a few times and the here's how the numbers came back...

Takeoffs (especially when it's squirrelly and I have to pull out of a bad situation due to poor tracking from crappy gear) and WOT really stress the system going over 100 amps and approaching LVC. However, most of the flying is in the 50-70 percent throttle range and that averages between 40 and 70 amps which is entirely in the safe zone. Bottom line, I am not giving up this giant prop even though I know it is stressing the motor on the higher throttle quadrants. Good thing is, I rarely hit those higher quadrants as I spend 90 percent of my flying at 65 percent throttle or lower.

The sound of those low passes even at marginal safe throttle is reason enough for me to keep the prop. I am going to look for a motor that has a bit more uumph to handle this prop...Maybe the Rimfire 80? My stock gear crapped out after the 3rd flight. Everybody's does eventually. Major weak part on those...I'm looking at the FMS 1700mm retracts or E-flite upgrades. That FMS 1400mm prop doesn't look bad at all! Also, is your covering a dark navy color or just the filter you used in the photos? I like that much better than my color which is more a royal blue...Welcome to Hobby Squawk by the way!

I need to get back to my Corsair project, I have been working on a Hangar 9 20CC Corsair and adding main doors and a tail retract. Lately, its been on the back burner but I really need to get around to finishing it up.

That would be awesome! I've only been up at the 114th once for their electric fly, most of the time I fly at the Golden Triangle RC field. Although the field is smaller, we have a nice geotex runway that makes it easy to fly the jets from. I'll be out there every weekend morning as long as the weather is good. Let me know when you'll be in town and I'd be happy to meet you there and open up the field, would be greet to meet you in person. You can see some of the field in this video:

Thanks Aros! The big prop is just one of those things you need on a Corsair. Really makes the iconic look of that airplane! Still have to do some testing to make sure that I don't cook the motor though. Currently setup is a Power 90 on 6S with a 21" Varioprop and a 125A esc.

I ran your prop in eCalc and there pretty much isn't a motor that will turn that 17"x10"x3 prop that doesn't get pretty silly in size for that plane. If you put a Rimfire 1.2 + a 160A Castle ESC on there you are still overtaxing the motors 1800W rating (Temperature and Wattage Warnings) at about 80% throttle. The 14"x8"x4 Motion prop causes my Rimfire .80 to be overtaxed at about 92% throttle and pulls it along at about 60mph with about 30mph of vertical.

My Corsair is a deep dark blue, not as royal as yours....

Skyboss is the 1:8.5 scale. The show a 1:7 and 1:5.5 scale on their website http://phoenixmodel.com/Product.aspx...ywords=corsair but when I was looking I couldn't find them being sold in the USA.

I have five flying Corsairs from a Guillow 31in. to an airfield 1450mm with sound and two kits I bough back in 88 before Desert Shield and marriage plus many plastic kits I put together over my 50+ years. :)
