    Impulse buy....Flyzone DHC-2

One of my close friends who also flies, was heading up an RC shop in Nashua, NH today and I figured I'd tag along just for the heck of it. I was just going to get a few small items, so was he. Welp we both walked out with Flyzone Select Scale DHC-2 Beavers, he got the Island Wings version and I got the Orange scheme one. Grabbed a set of 3" tires for mine also. Anyways I had to run into work for a few hours today, but when I got out he met me at my house and we set up shop. I had been reading the threads and many videos on this plane just for the heck of it (all of which are very positive and report a nice flier with good characteristics), I had intended on getting another FMS plane but just couldn't walk out empty handed today!

Two pizzas and we were off!

Assembly was a breeze, my experience thus far has been limited to FMS manuals, the Flyzone manual blew that out of the water, well illustrated, good explanation in the text really made it a fun experience. Took us 4 hours to put them together finished around 10pm, check the CG and it was spot on, perfectly balanced on two fingers (I had an 3c 1800 and he had an 2200 and they both were perfect) Did a few short taxi tests in the street and was happy with how it tracked.

Mines closest to the camera, going to go to a local crafts store and hopefully come up with a numeric decal/sticker to add to the tail, didn't really care for the stock fish emblem that was provided.

The lights are pretty impressive, the nav lights are bright as is the landing light, the simulated beacon on top is also pretty good, on mine however the wing and tail strobe/led is a little less impressive, the red DHC's flashing lights are much brighter, not much of an issue since we don't plan on doing much dusk flying! (actually caught my friends beacons mid-flash when I took the shot!)

Anyways tomorrow will be the dual maiden day, weather is calling for mostly cloudy, winds NW 5-7mph and temps in the high 50's, so should be good to go. Hoping for a good flight!!

The Beaver is awesome. I bought a Flyzone Beaver from a club member. I have not flown it yet as I want to improve my flying skills so I don't crash it.

You could only crash a Beaver if you tried to. It's a dream to fly. I love doing t&l's on water with mine. With water takeoffs be sure to use flaps. Doc

Nice planes I've been eyeing the Island Wings version myself I live along the Androscoggin river in Berlin NH. and fly my tidewater right in front of the house the fact that its on sale at mrc will probably send me over the edge.

Thanks for the tip. I have only flown mine once. With the landing gear. Can't remember if I even tried the flaps... Wish I did, if not. Now I have the floats on and it's ready for water. First test with this plane, with flaps in water is not my ideal maiden... But what if I don't use flaps the first time? Just takes longer to lift off, I imagine. With dangers of staying on water longer.

Maiden was great! Super smooth flying airplane! Really no complaints at all, one thing I noticed is even without flaps (but certainly much more pronounced if they are down) is when you give it some throttle, unless you counter with some down stick that thing want's to go almost straight up like a rocket!

Can't wait to fly it again! Two quick vids!

                  Take off

Few laps (mainly to get comfortably set up on an approach, I like the field which we fly at just wish the tall stand of pines wasn't there, feels a little bit cramped to get set up on a good approaches) And then a nice smooth landing.

Mine tends to start fishtailing at takeoff speed if I don't use flaps. I would suggest using flaps on takeoff. Just get her on out of the water! Doc

Here's a tip... I replaced the (cheesy) rubber bands with small, light springs. I also use VERY thin wire instead of the (cheesy) fishing line on my rudders. Doc

Yeah, ah maybe...someday....later than sooner? I think it'd be wicked cool to take this baby out on the water, that said 100% not comfortable with the idea, one little twitch and I'm upside down in the drink, literally up sh&t creek without a paddle! If it makes ya feel better I'll take her through some puddles, but I think that its gonna be a landlubber!

Watching those makes me want to build by Beaver and get it in the air too!
Gotta do it! Such a fun, relaxing plane to fly, charging up my mobius at the moment, going to scope out new potential field tomorrow, so hopefully will be able to get a little airborne footage!

And I like to add a little personal touch to each plane, nothing major on this one, though I'd love to get another one (cheap enough) and put a sleek blue and yellow or blue and silver scheme on it, but for now, just mixed up some paint to match the orange and colored up the tail.

Congrats SOB8604! It is a schweeeet plane. After flying a friend's FZ Beaver and Icon A-5, I had to have a water plane. I picked up the Island Wings model (NIB - $140 at swap meet). Like you I've read the various forums and I started obtaining suggested items (11x6x3 MAS, PZ T-28 prop adapter, civilian pilot figure, ball link mod for water rudders, etc.).

Did you get the excessive climb sorted out? The one I flew was the same way and it just took gentle throttle management to bring it under control.

Going back out in a few minutes, going to keep playing with it, I think throttle management is going to be the key factor there, though I did post in the thread on RC groups and was referred to a post within the thread to add some washers and give it some downward thrust, which I may try but want to go at it in its stock configuration a few times before I get into that!

Hey that orange tail is a great Idea. I've had mine for quite a while now, holding up great.

Thanks! This plane begs for a totally new paint job, big area's, easy lines to follow, but for now just the tail, looks good on the pattern when the sun hit's it really stands out!
