jasons has two planes that apply to the power system I suggested his edge540 has a ntm 5060-380 on 6s5a20c turning a 15x10 that scoots right along and has done 8-10 minutes. also a 5060-380 on the 6s5a20c turning a 17x7 that move right along and has don 8-10 minutes. the problem I have with a prop off a foamie is that foamie life is ~ 8 years then the stop making them, i don't have a problem with a smaller than scale prop on the ground as long as it flys well.

the destruction show that we have to glue in the pilot and canopy with hatches for and aft of him. the aft hatch for the E and R servos so by leaving out/modifying the pilot the entire area could be available for batteries its just what that 3# of battery will do to it.

Sure. I've got lots of pics at NASM and same when it was in Germany - liked that plane for at least 30 years now... Here's what the front gear looks like, though I haven't fully detailed it out yet. I also designed it for machining it, so will modify it for a hybrid metal/3d printed version for the Blackhorse scale eventually which will be more detailed.

We've been talking a bit about going 6S and using scale size props and all. While that's all good, I have a feeling that this bird is a lot like a Stuka. No matter how much power you pour into it, it's only going so fast.

Since fellow Squawker Terminater007 had one, I asked what he had used. He said "here's what i used -
2x SK3-5045 500kv
2x 80amp esc
Castle Bec Pro
6s 5000 mah
APC 14x7 prop at the front and a 14x 8.5 counter clockwise at rear." and he got 4 mins of flight time.

So, giving some seroius thought toward the joy of simply being able to fly the Do-335 for reasonable flight time and good performance, I will likely change direction.
One of my favorite daily flyers is a Sig T-Clips running an E-Flite Power 32, running an APC 13x6.5 on a 4S 4000mah. I get 6.5 - 7.5 mins of spirited flying and it goes like a pylon racer.

The Admiral GP5 4220-770kv motors are virually identical to the Power 32s. Two of those with the same batteries and props as the T-Clips, I think, would fly this bird very well. And have great flight times. It would also keep the weight down. Maybe not the best for scale, but the "fun factor" would be way up there.

She's a little heavier than 2X the T-Clips, so may have to think on it a little longer......

I built Al Masters' 70" Do 335 back in the 80s, sweet flying model and very different. Tracks straight as, well, an arrow :-) I took over selling Al Masters' plans many years ago, the 335 has enduring appeal, that's for sure. I'm working on a 60" version, re-designed in CAD for electric power. I have a build thread for that design on rcscalebuilder.com. I still sell plans and short kits for the 81" and 60" versions for those that want to build (sadly a shrinking minority). I would probably buy the Black Hawk ARF, if nothing else to have one that I could fly with impunity :-)
