  • Yeah the FW stock paint is definitely not an issue as far as paint coming up from tape...As for "removing those letters" the hell with that. If the scale is 1/10 or less I save myself the trouble and paint right over that crap. LOL

    • To My Friends at Motion............Do you think OLD CROW will be around for awhile?? I'm on a fixed, limited income (SS) and after buying the P38, I'm kinda financially embarrassed. I want the P51 but just can't swing it right now. Just wondering if it will be available..........say........for the next year.
      Thanks,
      Andy

      • Hi Andy,

Yes the Old Crow will be around for a long time. A lot went into that model with Bud Anderson's blessing and support so there's no worries it will be discontinued any time soon.

        • Yep, just what I did, left 'em on and painted 'em over! You can't tell and besides, they give you a reference point for the news ones, that's it, yeah!

              • Hey gman, I'm just now starting to want to do a little more with my planes and am enjoying watching the progress that you and Aros are making. I don't suppose that either one would consider doing a video while doing your projects to help those of us in the dark as to how to accomplish what you are doing. Shoot I would even pay for such a video.

                • Nice rivets Grossman! (Gman, I like that even better, thanks Dewey) :)

It's funny you mention a video. I've thought about recording video of some of my processes and then I think "Who would care?" LOL...Well apparently some might. If you have an idea for a video I would be happy to produce something if it could be beneficial to others.

                    So Gman,
Are you using a tool like say the "Trumpeter Rivet Maker Tool" to do that ?? I just googled that and it is like $10 which is really reasonable so was just wondering. Seems to be quite popular with plastic modelers for trains and planes.

                    • Hey Aros
I think the entire process that your doing on iron Ass would be interesting. I know I'd be glued to it. The first thing I do when I get on the forum is to check this area to see if you and Grossman have posted anymore pictures. I was serious when I said I was extremely interested in learning all of your secrets. People can write about something all day long but actually seeing a craftsman at work makes for good viewing and a lesson that sticks. I want to know all about the weathering, gun wash, rivers, best ways to brush or spray, even tips on tapering. Seeing what y'all are doing with your birds have awakened something in me to do more with mine. Thank you Aros for considering this. Anything you or gman can put up will be appreciated.(definitely by me)

                      • Hell no OV, you want to know what I'm using!!
A needle and a straight piece of cardboard to keep me in line. Got so good at it (through repetition) that I discarded the cardboard and did it free hand on the port side wing. I found a small needle with a Tee end on I, and I push it jus so it breaks the skin, looks good doesn't it, I found a rivet spacing that looked good to me and did my best to maintain that. I did go a little closer on the wing tips as they are a separate piece on the real ones so the were more tightly riveted.
Dewey, I'll get a video going and show you what you'd like to see. Give me a couple of hours to get it shot and then I'll post it and let you know!
Great to have someone interested, and I'm sure I speak for Aros as well when I say that I don't mind showing anyone what I'm doing to get the effect.

                          • That's great😆. Believe me I've been watching carefully all the pictures so far. I posted just a few minutes ago to Aros that I have realized that I finally want to do more but am in the dark as to the processes. Believe me when I say I'll be waiting patiently for anything you and Aros comes up with and anything anyone else wants to add. I'm sure it will all be well received. Thank sir. Looking forward to my first lesson.

I had a sneaky suspicion that you were doing that by hand versus a tool. Yeah it does look good which is a kudos on your discipline to do it manually because it does look tool formed. I don't know if I would have the patience discipline to sit there with a needle punching all those small spaced holes. What the hell am I saying, just spent four hours today doing a cockpit detail on my Antonov AN-2!!

                                  • Okay boys, its an 'okay' video of what I do, its a little out of focus for the first part but it gets better. I actually went a little heavy on the paint for the gun smoke, I'd suggest that you adjust your paint gun so that you're getting a minimum amount of paint being applied, then layer it up, letting it dry between layers.

Let me know what you think.
