Hey Gman and Lon. Well I jumped on the wagon this morning went by put some money on my plane card and called. Didn't call soon enough for ups to pick it up today but got the notification it was ready for them to do so. It'll hit Fayetteville nc Friday afternoon but won't be delivered until Monday. Bummer, have to go all weekend knowing it's in town and can't see it until Monday. Arose what is going on???? Is it being discontinued all together or just trying to get excess stock down. Can't help but to worry a little since buying this you get what is in the box no matter if nothing works, broken or otherwise. It's yours and you just have to buy whatever it takes to get it going. When I ask Brad today if there has been an unusual amount of problems encountered with shipments with this plane he kinda was not very self assuring. Well anyhow mines on the way and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks Gman and Lon I'm sure I'll be bugging y'all with questions when I start the assembly. Good Flying Guys.
Well, I was holding out and trying to not add another plane to the fleet, but after reading all these comments, and watching the video on this plane, I broke down and ordered mine tonight. I waited too long and missed the Freewing FW-190 that I wanted, so decided to jump on this one instead. It will go nicely with my FMS P-51D, and I am anxious to do my own comparison of them.

Well whenever a product is moved to clearance, it's usually the first indication that the model will be discontinued. As Alpha mentioned in an earlier post, there's nothing "wrong" with Iron Ass other than not having a need for two silver FW P-51D Mustangs competing against each other, and with the background of the Old Crow, Iron Ass became the odd plane out.
There is some risk with buying clearance (as is, if there is a broken part or issue we're on our own) but to my knowledge there is nothing wrong with these models. I haven't heard anyone internally mention problems with this shipment or this model that is now on clearance. I don't anticipate any major issues with mine once she arrives other than finding dry weather to maiden.
Sorry for leaving you out when I was thanking gman and Lon ov10. I appreciate your input as well and took all advice to heart and ordered one today. Aros I did not mean to imply that MOTION would be anything other than class a and honorable. I apologize if it came across in any way detrimental. The people have always given me good service and customer satisfaction. I'll be looking forward to finally being part of the p 51 club as I have been a corsair jockey forever. Just love the gull wing dving in for a low pass...

:D
Todd's correct. To be clear, this is normal inventory, not defected inventory. Although at this rate I'll think we'll run out tomorrow or soon after, anyway.

Dang. Thought I was going to have to wait until Monday to see my plane. Just got a notice from ups that it will be delivered between 1&5 pm tomorrow. Great job MOTION for getting it here so quickly. Thanks.
Guys, I dont mean to rain on anybody's parade. But I don't see any real value in the discounted obsolete1 FW P-51 Iron Ass. To upgrade to the current spec FW P-51 Old Crow would cost over $100 to replace the power system. So the $70 dollar discount does not look to balance out the need to spend $100+ to bring the old Iron Ass up to spec with the Old Crow. Ok , you would wind up with a weak spare power system. But is that what you want for $30 to $50?
I have an Iron Ass with sound and it is a great flying plane. I purchased a long time ago. I could not resist this price, although I have no room for anymore planes, not to mention the P 38 is on the way. I am going to have a fire sale to make room for more planes. I am back on the forum and hope this rely do not cause any issues with the so "call expert".
Hello Konrad,
I am not following where you are going with spec upgrading the "IA"(Iron Ass) to "OC"(Old Crow) at $100+ ??? The IA performs very well with the power plant that it comes with. As a matter of fact, both motors are 580kV rated units but the OC's motor 'most likely' has a bit more torque capability because of the standard 16x10x2 prop that it comes with versus the 14x8x4 on the IA. We don't really know what the electrical differences are between the 4258-580 on OC is versus the 4250-580 on IA. As you have said many times about not having "tech" info of motors being posted(I concur) so the question is who really cares? Most folks are really into the 4 blade setup and not the 2 and that IA setup is not weak as you indicated unless of course your doing zip tie mods or whatever. I don't think you are missing anything other than if you don't have a FW P-51 then you owe yourself one at this great price.
Best regards,

The 4258 motor can draw more current this is why the motor is matched with a 80 amp ESC. To use this extra current capacity it is match to a heavier load in a 16x10 2 bladed prop. While the 2 motors have the same kv rating the larger 4258 will drive any given prop more efficiently than the smaller 4250 motor. So if both motor are of the same design the 4258 will drive the 14x8 4blade a little faster on the same battery.
We can go into the whys if you want but I fear some would have issues with this, thinking I was operating outside the spirit of Hobby Squawk. But that being as it may be. The reason in layman terms is that with the longer can (magnets) more of the copper winding, by percentage, is under the magnetic field. The copper used at the end of the stator contribute nothing to the power of the motor as that part of the wire is not under the magnetic field. All that copper at the end of the stator is doing is adding resistance to the flow of electrons.
When I said weak I was not saying that the motor wasn't adequate.
Yes, you are correct we don't have published technical data on these motors. And that is a real shame!
As to who cares? I care as I want to get the best value for my dollar and time spent at the field! Don't you?
Konrad, I think perhaps you could be missing the point some are making, which is, this is a good quality plane that performs just fine as is for them (without sound) so as such it still is offering folks a good value. Sometimes Occam's Razor is the paradigm.
Motor/prop details aside, the stock 4 bladed Iron Ass without sound has the same power in the air as most of the FMS 1400mm warbirds. Iron Ass 1400mm = $209, FMS 1400mm = $299. The Iron Ass shares many common parts with the Old Crow, so spare parts availability isn't a concern for me. Based on those two factors, that makes an Easy decision for me to pick up another IA.
