Yeah I was chattin' one of my other RC buds up about it and pointed out how just the tracks and gearboxes accounted for more than the difference between the Upgrade and Pro trims. I did put an order in for a 360º turret ring kit but that won't show up for a while. Slowboat right from China, couldn't find it sold from a N/A seller. Ah well.

The the only exception is the Hooben Fury in which case I had no choice. Anyway, Many people use blackening solution on their tracks, I dont. I do what you suggested, spray paint them black-then they get a heavy dose of mud, dirt & dust.
I built a King Kong RC CA-10 a couple years ago and what I did with the body on it was I painted a rust color directly onto the white plastic bodywork, then atop that a layer of steel color, then atop that I put a forest green color. It worked a treat; the more I handled and drove the truck the more the paint got worn down...first to bare metal, then through that to the rust layer. When it finally made it down to the bright white plastic I'd just touch up with the rust and steel enamels until it looked weathered again.

These tracks are already metal by default, so it's really a decision of whether or not I want to depict a vehicle with older tracks that have a little rust in places or not.

Something else I'm gonna look into in time is moving away from the HL electronics and onto my Futaba 16iz. Direct servo control of gun elevation(And some gun depression!) would be sweet and having it on that radio would let me do even more with it than the HL 7.0 board does.

Here's the video I got up. Just havin' fun drivin' it around heh
This Henglong model is impressive from the shear size aspect. Im wondering just how to scale it actually is. I'm betting from a scale aspect, its way off. This is a monster of a tank to be sure. Please post a vid when complete as I would be very interested in seeing your final result.
It looks good enough to me. The proportions aren't cartooney, size-wise it's about what you'd expect relative to that Hobby Boss T-34/85 kit. I'm sure a rivet counter could find nits to pick but I think it's good enough.

Sweet, and definalty plenty of pulling power. Hooking up a Hobby grade radio to the Henglong MFU is not possible. unless you somehow managed to break the radio code? However running 2 radios in tandom, is I suppose...That would be a challenge to run for sure ! Henglong has 2 MFU's with servo control recoil & elevation. The TK6.1 & TK 7.1

I wasn't gonna attempt to run the stock MFU with my 16IZ. I was just gonna go scorched earth on the electronics. Should be able to get away with a 6 channel receiver. Two channels to drive the tank, two to aim the gun, another to fire the gun, another to trigger smoke...yeah 6 channels should do. Receiver shouldn't be too expensive, be another R2106GF like I use in my other surface models. I'm thinking a 1/16th control board from 35RCTank.com would be a possible candidate for driving the tank. I've used their boards on 1/35th static tank conversions in the past and never had any problems. This thing's heavy, but it's only got 380 brushed motors in it, which is within what their board can handle.

I'd retain the stock stick mapping, but gun elevation would be bound to a stick that stays where it's put and would be directly controlled with a servo. A couple of little relays should be sufficient for controlling the smoker and firing the BB gun. The only thing I'm not sure how I'd move over is sound...

I almost wonder if someone's made STL files for an SU-152 conversion. That's a big thing HL themselves could do with this hull and was a more practical 152mm gun mount on this hull. Were used extensively in the war to crack Tigers and Panthers open.
A lot of KV-2s had no markings at all on them, but it's your tank so mark it up how you like it.

Inkor has a complete SU-152 to print. I'm not sure if you could just print the casemate and mate it to a HL upper, but one of these days I'm going to try it with the ISU-152 on a Taigen IS-2 hull.

I just looked at the ISU-152 files I bought from him and if the SU-152 files are modeled the same, you can print just the casemate.

Mmm. I kinda like havin' a little fun with markings sometimes. Not every model tank has to be historically accurate! Heh eh.

Oh my. That'll be fun to run off of my Monoprice MP-10 Mini, but those pictures look imposing in all the right ways. Might just grab those files and add that to the list of options for my tank. One hull to make...what, four IFVs at this point? KV-1E, KV-2, KV-85, SU-152, all on the same lower.

Kinda makes me wish HL sold the KV-series lower hulls as standalone sliders. They do this with some of the German hulls!

Yeah the KV tanks tend to multiply. I now have an SU-152, a KV-1E, a KV-2, and the parts to build another KV based tank destroyer...a KV-7-2. Ahhhh....dual 76mm barrels... :) They did make a working prototype of it.

Didn't they at one point dabble with an IS turret on the KV hull because they wanted that gun on the battlefield, had turrets ready to go, but didn't have the IS hulls ready yet?

The more screws it takes to reassemble a tank, the more likely it is you left something out!

It does look mean! Found the resin upper for it too; 115 euros.

In the US, buy from DAK RC online.

Got some bits out of my nitro toolbox, a 1/8 drill bit, and hacked away at the smoke system for a bit. Voila! Smoke now exits in the CORRECT locations. It's a bit inconsistent, but that tracks with the actual KV-1 so I'll let it slide. Didn't even need to remove the stock exhaust details, I was able to just T-drill them in situ.

I'll probably open it back up for more work on the system at a later date...I have a 360º turret kit en route for it anyway...but I'm liking this. Must do mod for anyone that buys a Heng Long KV-series tank.

Yup, the KV-85 was an IS turret armed with an 85mm gun from the SU-85 and T34 mounted on the KV-1S chassis. The KV-1S has the sloped rear deck. They also tried the IS 122mm gunned turret, but only made like one of those.

Oohhh. Checked them out, price is about the same, also they have some interesting boards I can use to divorce my HL tanks from their stock radios without losing ANY functions. They ain't cheap, but those Clark boards would be just perfect for migrating my KV-1 to my Futaba radio.

I wonder if the SBus protocol they can listen to is the same one Futaba puts out.
