Hello, new to rc tanking world I took my two tanks outside today and noticed when driving through grass (not tall grass) they can not turn on the spot, the tracks driving the turn slip. Is there a way to make the tracks so they don't slip or is there some other way?

Grass lawn is the most difficult surface for the 1/16 scale RC tank to navigate. If you have the plastic version Heng Long tanks with plastic tracks, they run poorly on grass. Any all metal version will run fine on grass. Otherwise, add metal gearbox, metal road wheel and metal track to increase the total tank weight to 10 pounds or more. The can run ok too.Originally posted by Balcifer View PostHello, new to rc tanking world I took my two tanks outside today and noticed when driving through grass (not tall grass) they can not turn on the spot, the tracks driving the turn slip. The cheapest Heng Long track has hollow back side and weights very little. It is definitely not enough. I also found out that the all metal power chain needs a more powerful power motor and a better suspension than the coil spring too.Originally posted by Balcifer View PostWould getting the metal tracks from motion rc be enough or getting road wheels also a must?
There are many roads to Rome. Do some reading on this forum to get upgrade ideas that suits you. Or you can purchase a RTR metal tank such as:

The V2 professional version of the Heng Long Abrams and Leopard2A6 have the requisite weight and torsion bar suspension to run well on slippery grass lawn.

I took a different path. I upgraded to a Taigen/Torro all metal lower chassis.

In the Heng Long original design, the Abrams and Leo use an adjustable coil spring suspension. It works well with the plastic chassis. I use aftermarket stiffer coil spring. The setup works ok with an all metal power drive chain upgrade. This version can be identified by a large battery compartment access door on the underside of the tank.Originally posted by Balcifer View PostI do not know what kind of suspension the upgraded edition the abram and leopard have. And they are the V2 versions
The HL V2 version have torsion bar suspension which should work better with a wide range of weight. The battery access is by a smaller hatch on the upper chassis. I have one HL RC tank with the torsion bar which is the IDF Merkava. It is a better overall approach. I also added metal road wheel and a ball bearing to the gearbox drive shaft. The track is Torro nylon track.
