This is an interesting concept. It's obtrusively expensive but there's nothing else like it. Very unique. They've been promising this for months and months and finally, it looks like it's about to be released. I don't need the FPV stuff. I mainly want it as a VTOL. It could be some time before they offer it stripped down. For now, it's only available as a "full zoot" RTF product.

I got on their email list and they sent me a questionnaire, filled it out and never heard from them again till the other day when I got an email saying 10 days to launch, I'm spending $1500. for foam, $350.00 for 63in. is max. When the B2 came out I said $700. No, I got one new in box for $300. two years later. I will wait on this tooo.

It's very cool but the head of HW when he demo'ed it at our field (and let a few of us fly it and an autonomous helo he had) didn't have a firm price but his estimate was crazy high. Definitely a specialized purchase.Comment

The little man sitting on my left shoulder says to jump on it before the price goes up even more, but the little guy on my other shoulder says to wait. I think that the long wait and all the delays have helped many enthusiasts temper their excitement somewhat. The final price also threw a bucket of cold water on it, too.
Evan, did you get to fly it? Did anyone ever transition to airplane mode and back again? Rumour had it that they were having problems with the transition. At least one "tester" was told, in no uncertain terms, to NOT do any transitions with his sample.
Although not the same style of product, considering what we get with the upcoming 110mm F-35 for so much less, I agree that the X-Wing is a very specialized purchase.Comment

I didn't but the "owner" of FW Wichita did and a couple other members did and they did transition from vertical to standard flight. Those that flew were intermediate at best as it really didn't take any skill to fly it with the flight controller set up it had. More like your input was a suggestion to the system. They never did FPV though it was in the case. It flew seamlessly and was very cool. He and two Chinese company employees (I think they were software people) were on the way from Joe Nall to, I assume, fly out of Charlotte and stopped.

That's the "killer". I've asked FlyWing on their chat and on their Facebook page about the cost of shipping and they have not answered. Add that to the total price and we're into stratospheric prices for what amounts to a toy foam airplane. Well, I've got 5 days to really chew on it.
(A friend at the flying field yesterday was talking about the price of this hobby these days. He said "Ya can't take it with you". And the wife sure won't throw all my cash into the oven when they BBQ me.)Comment

Just to update this thread and bring it to a conclusion. I did get the urge on launch day. I was one of the first few to order and got the lower price for the first 100 units. Those buying the first 100 units had an engraved name plate on the carrying case. $1999.00US, then the price goes up 100 bucks for every 100 units after that till it got to the 501 unit where it went to $2500.00. Shipping is $200.00 on top of that. Delivery was to take a few days.
Well, weeks went by and nothing. A few people are just starting to recieve theirs. Today, I get an email saying the only shippers available are UPS and DHL and neither one will accept this item because they are considered "drones" and the rules are too strict for drones to Canada. I call BS on this one as I have several FlyWing "drones" and all came by mail without issue. They claim they can't ship to Australia because there is a battery inside. BS again. They can't ship to Switzerland for other excuse. They can't ship to Hawaii for yet another excuse. This whole thing has turned out to be a complete fiasco. I asked for a full refund. Enough is enough. I won't be buying FlyWing stuff anymore. Besides, Roban/Rotorscale make far superior products anyway.Comment

So far, the videos have been mainly from the "reviewers" who got them for free. There's been very few (if any) from private owners since only a "handful" have actually received them. The odd posting have been from those who were so thrilled to get them finally. Then we hear nothing more. One claims he has broken props and needs more but can't get any. When asked why he's breaking so many props, no reply. Likely he didn't head the warning about which way to orientate it when landing and it just topples over. Then there's a couple artsy fartsy still pictures that don't tell much. Real world flight videos from actual end users would still be VERY interesting, along with impressions comparing all the "gushing" reviews from those who were expected to "gush". You're not going to trash talk something this pricey when you get it for free.
Being in Texas, I think you're OK on the shipping front, yet I think you should have gotten some shipping info by now. It's Monday now and no word from FlyWing about finding a shipper who will accept it. I'm not sure how much longer I'll wait. (New and very appealing planes are on the horizon. Money could be better spent elsewhere.)Comment
