    • A little aerobatic formation practice through loops and barrel rolls in a Zeus vs Avanti S with afterburner at dusk. Feeling lucky there were close calls but no mid-air collision

      • Real early this morning I got several flights in on my new HSD T-33, total of 9 flights so far and all dialed in. I sold all my Freewing jets to get back into these big ones again, plan on getting the F-86 as well. The bigger they are the better they fly.

          DC,

          What a beauty.

Just bought the Freewing version and planning a aluminum repaint.

I just hope it turns out as well as your FMS.

Congrats on your successful first check flight.

            • Got out late last week with a few favorites and for once the weather (and wind) was beautiful. I upgraded the horizontal stabs on my 2 90mm F-18's and both 8S 90mm F-4's with the ProModeler servos so needed to test them out and retrim. The ProModeler servos are outstanding, priced competitive with Hitec and MKS, yet IMO much better. Made here in Florida. The are powerful, quiet, smooth as silk and extremely consistent. Details on the upgrade/installation in the F-4/F-18/Mig-29 threads. Upgraded the Mig several years ago and was so impressed by them decided to do a few others in the critical elevator surfaces.

Forgot how well the Spitfire flies, 12 minutes on an SMC HiV 5900. Of course the A-10 is unbeatable for smooth flying and get 7 minutes on 2-SMC HiV 5900's. The F-4 flies for over 5 minutes on an 8S SMC HiV 5900 and the F-18 gets the same on a 6S SMC HiV 5900. I obviously like those packs!

                        • I didn't fly today but I did fly yesterday morning bright and early, I like to get out early right before full sunrise. I really enjoy flying my HSD T-33 and I like that's it's Futaba S-bus ready, nice and a very clean setup.

                          • I've had some good flying weather for the mostpart this summer. Mornings are usually best for winds, avoiding sun damage on foam, and density altitude at my elevaton (5,200' MSL).

This morning, I got my 50th flight on my newest FMS P-47D, Penrod and Sam, flown for a few missions by one of the top aces in the ETO by the 8th USAAF, Captain Robert S. Johnson. The other plane I flew for its 30th flight today was a Flightline F9F-8 Cougar. I have added a 3D printed working speedbrake on the bottom of the fuse. Both airplanes a lot of fun to fly.

A great way to enjoy the early mornings, for me.

                            Cheers

This is the quintessential spot for submersibles.

                                  • Took my FMS F-86 out for a flight this morning. I think I have got this thing dialed in for my tastes as well as I can get it. Really a smooth flyer, and using the speedbrakes full open on final approach to landing and keeping some throttle in to touchdown makes for some very smooth, manageable, and pretty landings. This is rapidly becoming my favorite jet. You can see from the attached photo of it on the ground that all the gear doors are retracted as they would be with hydraulic power on the airplane. (The nose gear does have a mechanically controlled gear door that is in this position with the gear down.) I copied the idea from Chris Wolfe (RC Geek) and it works out great!

I also brought my Flightline F/A-18C for a flight, although a strong crosswind came up and I opted not to tempt fate, at least for me and my skills. Still, I did all the ground tests that I could since I have not flown it since last spring, and it is fully ready to go possibly tomorrow morning.or in a few days.

The F-18 is painted up in the markings of the VFA-146 Blue Diamonds, which was the default pre-painted paint scheme of the OEM model. However, I did add some scale embellishments: a servo movable tail hook and wheel brakes. In addition, I have the OEM cockpit that I improved a little bit, but a second cockpit that I fly with sometimes that is very scale, although a little heavier. I call this second cockpit my "deluxe Elbee cockpit" as he funished me many STLs to make parts to improve it to look more scale. Also, although you can't see them all that well in the photo, I printed up some very scale looking AIM-9 Sidewinders for the wings. The OEM ones were very cheesy and bent due to the airflow during flight causing a few minor controllability issues.

                                    Cheers

Have you flown both the Freewing and FMS F-86? With the FW being discontinued I may be looking at the FMS.

Thanks, Evan. I had the Freewing F-86 for about 5 years. It was pretty well worn out before we made our move to Cody in 2020, but I flew the hell out of it and really enjoyed it. When I became aware of the FMS F-86 fairly recently, I debated buying it, but chose to pick one up. I loved the Freewing F-86, but I think I like the FMS version a bit more. I like the operable speedbrakes that I routinely use for landings at this altitude (5300' MSL). Even at this altitude and thinner air, I find it flies great, and really looks like the real thing. I was disappointed that FMS did not include scale retracting and extending gear doors like the real plane had, but RC Geek's ingenious modification using strong fishing wire or cord allows for the main gear doors to operate in a scale manner. It has great presence in the air.

I think you would like this plane, mods, or not.

                                          Cheers
