After a week's hiatus from flying due to cold weather, snow, and winds, this morning was prerfect, (for up here. ) Temp was about 28 degrees, calm winds, beautiful sunny morning with no clouds. The blanket of snow at the field, about 1-2 inches deept was perfect for flying from with my Timber on floats, which excels at this type of flying. Just a true joy and relaxing to fly under these conditions. I had it hung up in my garage for a year, but I'm going to keep it downstairs, ready for the next snow to come down to get some more fliying in.
Cheers

Davegee,
Snow and floats make great winter flying. Couple club members flew yesterday after our 3" snowfall. lots of fun.
Your plane and floats look great, but look at that great view you get to fly in. Beautiful
Best Regards, Rex
P.S. Is that Indian smoke signals asking for warmer weather or just clouds.

Got out the other day with some aircraft that can handle higher winds, our norm for "winter". Winds were 15-20, gusts to 25mph but directly down the runway. All 4 of these have the RX upgraded to Plus, and with those winds, all were rock solid, quick take offs, and perfect landings, at least for me. In fact with plus and higher winds, it was easier to land than dead calm winds.
On the SU-27, I used 2 of the new V2 SMC 6S HiV 4900's for the first time and got 7 minutes of fairly aggressive flying, wwoo who! Mig is on 2 SMC HiV 5900's for over 5 minutes, next time I'm trying 2 SMC HiV 6700's. The Corsair gets over 10 minutes.on the 5900 and the F4 is on an 8S SMC HiV 5900 for 6 minutes. Life is Goooood (as long as I can fly)

Lately, it's been more accurately what did i crash today....
This goes out to whomever would like to render an opinion. All will be appreciated.
I am flying with Spektrum ix20 (5 years old) and using Spektrum smart receivers in all my planes and i use SMC HV Lipos in everything. Recently, I've had a few losses of beloved aircraft. I'll be flying along as normal and i just lose the connection with the plane - it's like the plane went dead - no throttle, no control surfaces, nothing. A couple of times it happened under load taking off (i'm usually the wide open throttle type of guy...). Everything just seems to go dead.
In one of the cases, i suspect the battery was the culprit, as it was older and questionable so it may not have been able to handle the load of take-off throttle and the ESC just shut everything off...???
In the other two cases, both batteries were only a few months old, so I don't think they're to blame, but again, I do not know what's going on here...
Anyone care to take a stab at it, please advise... and thank you in advance...

With those RX"s telemetry is included giving you constant info on in flight pack voltage, allowing you to absolutely know in flight when to land. So I recommend that highly. But doubt your issue is with the packs.
Secondly, in all my EDF's, I also install a satellite RX with 2 more antennas about 6-12 inches from the main RX, giving me 4 antenna oriented in 4 different planes. After landing, check in your TX (one of the info screens you scroll to off main) the signal history for frame losses and holds. Frame losses of 50 or less OK, any holds of 1 or more, very bad. The satellites help tremendously and I always have frame losses of 0 to 5 and 0 holds, quite excellent. Older Spektrum RX"s without satellites gave me occasional black outs. The new RX's with twin antennae and AS3X, along with satellites have cured that as their reception and signal is much stronger than the previous ones. Keep the active end of the ntennas away, if possible, from any carbon fiber and especially away from the battery.
Reception of the antenna active end is like a doughnut around it, with a dead zone directly in front and behind, so orient the other antennas to cover that.
So I believe your problem is with the RX signal, one I battled with extensively in the past, but cured with these new RX's and satellites and antenna placement, not the packs or your TX. Of course installing the in flight battery voltage call outs with the T RX's is IMO a must so you don't have to rely on your timer alone and how you handled throttle management from one flight to the next.
Hope this helps in some small way.Hugh "Wildman" Wiedman

thanks guys - i appreciate it. i do use one satellite rx in every plane usually. in these 3 dumps, all of them had satellites... and i have custom reports set up for flt pack voltage call out as well...
i'm suspecting the tx at this point. i'm going to send it in i guess. no faith at this point though...
