I'd sure like to get an update on Alpha as well.

    • I've heard that Alpha is fine. We may be hearing from him more often in the not too distant future.

      • I saw some comments on the Mig-29 Red Star. We just ran out of of our first shipment to the USA. We do indeed have some on the way to the Motion RC EU warehouse and will likely start a pre-order for the second shipment to the USA.

        • Motion RC now has multiple Product Managers overseeing its Air Category, so we are changing the name of this Topic to a more generic "What's next from Motion RC"

I’m going to stay in the Tornado camp. (Or the A-7 camp, B-1B camp, or B-52 camp. Anything that can burn around 5 feet off the ground ground!) I’ll admit though that I have no idea what goes into designing a model for production.

            • HOW ABOUT SOME DAMN!!! FLIGHTLINE!?!?!?!?!? How about a nice 1600MM P-51B or C? How about a 1600 P-47 Razorback? Or a Zero? Or that Italian warbird?
Or I guess we will just sit back and continue to listen to excuses as to why we haven't seen a Flightline in years. Or maybe I'm just living under a rock and don't know what I'm talking about.

              • The updated 1600mm Flightline Mosquito would be just fine.

Thanks for the update. Who are the Air Category Product Managers now? I'm guessing that Alpha is still an essential part.

How about a Fliteline or Freewing Grumann HU-16 Albatross so we don't have to deal with HobbyKing and the games they play!, especially with shipping!.....

                          What "games" do they play?
I've had their Albatross for a few years and it's still with me, working flawlessly. The purchase was effortless. The plane was delivered in perfect condition and flies extremely well. It's big, imposing and has been glitch free. It's one of my principle winter, snow planes. It also flies in summer from grass. The motors and props are so good, I put a set on my VQ Twin Otter, which I also bought from HobbyKing years ago and fly to this day. I also have their Avios Twin King - a magnificent product, in league with the latest Eflite offerings (like the Beech D-18)
It would be shear folly for Flightline/Freewing to try to compete with this HobbyKing effort. Their latest Avios line of planes are nothing like the old "crap", cheapie planes they still sell. Avios has come a long way and I consider them to have become a more "upscale" line, with good workmanship and components, with well thought out design. They've even just updated the Albatross and claim it's improved, although I can't see what needed to be improved as it was already a very good product to begin with. It's a sort of "niche" market and that market isn't big enough for 2 of them.

Motion RC does not publish the names of employees, but I can tell you they are all product experts and diehard hobbyists.

                                What "games" do they play?

I had a V1 Avios Albatross but it was attacked by a "rock-hard crosswind gust" at the end of a peninsula on a lake and slammed into the water is like hitting concrete. It exploded in several pieces which were retrieved but it was toast. It's a tough and heavy bird for sure and it flies great. I will get a new V2 and dial it in better or stay away from peninsulas...I should venture into a gyro, but I'm not sold on them yet. Losing hundreds of dollars should change my mind, but I'd rather be it my fault than a gyro. The key is setting it up right...
Anyway, there were none in stock in the USA Warehouse a few weeks ago. I tried the Global warehouse and I thought they were joking about shipping costs to Ontario. I wrote them and they granted me a discount because of "Platinum Member" status. I tried again to buy one from USA, in stock. I went to the shipping estimate, the discount was shown for about 5 seconds and disappeared. I tried again and it wasn't there. I went back to the Global site to see if it showed up there. It did, but disappeared again. Here, below, are the costs they want to my province from Global. The estimate for their weight says 4100-4500 grams. The V2 Albatross manual says, "With Battery, 2570grams". I sent them an email finding it hard to believe that the packaging is 1830 grams. They said shipping weights are computer generated. Check out the red-circled FedEx Priority price....Obviously, I would go with the EMS. It's unfortunate that Motion and HK planes aren't available here in stores; but we know why that is......Merry Christmas Y'All!.....

                                • AirHead .......................... Perhaps "games" wasn't the right word to use in any of the examples you gave. I live in Alberta and when I buy from HobbyKing, I understand the shipping aspect of the purchase. My only beef is that HobbyKing stopped "free shipping" to Canada a while back for reasons that wasn't explained clearly but I believe it had to do with shipping cost cross border went sky high and those were in the arena of the shipping company, not HobbyKing. That said, no "games" were played here.
Packaging weighing over 1800g (or ~4 lbs) is not hard to believe. Next time you get a large plane like this, go ahead and weigh it. Again, no "games" being played here.
As far as the FedEx Priority shipping of $2300.00 ............. Why would anyone in their right mind choose that? That's most likely something out of the FedEx price book. So for HobbyKing - no "games" being played here either.
The discount disappearing? I've had that happen myself. It's more likely a computer glitch. Their "discounts" are so miniscule, I didn't even care. If you want to call a computer glitch a "game", OK. The only other thing that I might see as a "game" with HobbyKing is their WIDE range of "out of stock" items, but then, Horizon is also guilty of that and there have been times that even Motion has suffered from this. It's a supply chain issue due to the state that the world has been in the past several years. It's hard to cast "blame" so maybe it's easier to just call it a "game".
So, enough of the "games" topic, insofar as a gyro is concerned, I've lost planes myself due to my own inability to set them up right. I haven't had any incidents since learning how they work and how to set them up. Gyros or no gyros, that's an individual preference. I fly my Albatross with no gyro for now, but I may install one in the future just to make it even more rock solid. I also intend to program differential thrust for better ground handling. I don't fly this plane on water.

                                  Back to "What's next" .............................
And back to Motion making and selling an Albatross, I still don't think it's feasible for them to do it when it's a niche market plane and a really good one already exists. If Motion did bring one to market, they would more than likely grab it from the same company who makes it for HobbyKing, just like they did on some of their Nexa and Skynetic lines, both of which were once and may still be sold by HobbyKing. The price won't be any cheaper nor will the shipping as anything we Canucks buy from Motion comes via the usually methods (eg, UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) and all those rates are set by the carrier, not by Motion. The only "deal" we might get is the brokerage, as Motion has some kind of deal with the carrier for pre-paid brokerage.

Oh, and YES, a Vulcan (the English bomber one) would be a must have.

                                  • I'm glad we got that sorted out. I will buy another Albatross and get a gyro and make it all work because it's time to embrace newer technologies. There's always the option of turning the gyro off if it becomes a questionable accessory. As far as an Avro Vulcan Bomber goes, it would be a great project to produce. Back in the day, the Vulcan flew over Toronto every year at the CNE Air Show along with other British and American planes. It was an astounding presence in the sky....This is the last "flyby" of a Vulcan being escorted by the Red Arrows in 2015...

                                    • I've seen the real Vulcan a couple of times in my life. Decades ago, one came to an airshow in Alberta and then again in Abottsford. I've wanted a flying model ever since.
