The "extra weight" will only be from the battery weight of 8s, which may only be 300g to 400g. And since HRBs (which I plan to use) are lighter batteries to begin with, the added weight may be even less. Also note that the retracts/struts on this plane is more beefy than those that came on the original versions of the Eurofighter. Nevertheless, trailing link mains might be a better option for some pilots and I'm sure they can be adapted to this plane without too much work.

You’ve misunderstood, The brand of battery doesn’t matter, I only mentioned it in passing comment, I’m actually really happy with my HRB packs I have 3,4,6s 6000 packs 👍. Iv just seen some nice flying models that the retracts can’t really handle the extra weight of 8s on grass tho happy in the air, There are a lot of nice scale details that would be ripped off if a main gear came out.

But mainly the thrust specs are clearly exaggerated, it will never make the thrust claimed, or Jetfan/Schübeler will be out of business soon. Secondly I have spare proven 90mm edf units and ESC’s ready to go in hence my asking. 👍 good to know the struts look stronger than the V1/V2 version. I’m more than happy to pre order the 8s version and give it a go, it would be Interesting to test the thrust vs the claim.

    • Gotha!

Any thrust numbers you may have seen are likely "static thrust". In a plane, especially one with twin outlets, actual thrust will be less.

      • It's amazing some numbers that get thrown around. Not only uninstalled numbers but some use power supplies set at voltages you just will never have when flying. Then people get their new fan and they think they'll have way over 1:1 thrust to weight but in reality are nowhere near it and freak out. Also bifurcated exhausts rob a bit of power and if you have TVs a bit more.

How about an RAF version - like GINA?

They never updated that part of the computer generated info. It's based on the plane actually being in stock, which of course, it isn't.

We can only hope to see more from the one or two people who have them already for testing and preview purposes. Beyond that, we likely won't see any until those fellas in Taiwan or Korea or SE mainland China as they'll get their private ones about end of January (probably just before Chinese New Year - Jan. 22). They are supposedly available for sale just before mid-Jan in Hong Kong. Remember those first videos of the Mig29 being crashed before the rest of world could even get them? Probably those guys.

I'm all in favor of someone else working out the bugs.

I still have my V2 should we get an unseasonably warm winter in Chicago.

You still have a V2 Euro? Wow! I've had 2, maybe 3 (can't remember as it's been years ago) and my last one is now up for sale from the guy I sold it to. One of my other flying buddies was about to buy it until this one got announced. Now 3 of us have ordered this new one.

Reason: Look at who's at the head of Tesla. If he took over RC, we'd all be screwed.

                            • So. its a no brainer I'm definitely getting one of these, I'll likely wait until they're in stock as I don't have the will power to wait once I've hit the buy button when things are available let alone a preorder.

As such I imagine when my time comes to buy this question will have likely been answered but for now I'm interested to see what others think.

so here goes the question being 6S or 8S? obviously 8S gives her more power but will likely be heavier,

Will she be better setup for high speed with low static thrust or visa versa?

I wonder will the 6S variant have a high enough thrust to weight ratio to possibly recover post stall better than the 8S with the added weight?

(I know weights and thrust figures are all speculative at present but just curious to see your opinions and your reasoning too)

                              • As you say no one knows. The fans are new and though the 8S has been out a little while the 6S hasn't. I ordered the 6 but here's why. The numbers for the fan are good so I'm interested in seeing how it performs. The 6 and 8 both come with a 8S Hobbywing ESC so if I later drop in a 8S fan I don't need to get a 8S ESC. The all up with battery should be right at 4kg and with the wing area this has it should be a good flying plane, not heavy or sluggish.

But if I don't like it on 6S I have two JetFan/ HET 8S set ups sitting in a drawer and all the 8S batteries need just in case.

I really waffled between all three versions as I also have a spare Hobbywing 8S ESC in the drawer so I could have gone kit+ or just said heck with it and gone the 8S version. Two reasons I didn't, first the ESC as noted and second the 8S fan has a metal (heavier) shroud and the 6S is plastic or if I drop in the JF/HET it's carbon fiber. I almost always buy planes with a fan as it smarter. If I don't want the power system I can sell it on here for much more than the price difference to a kit+.

                                • Thanks Evan that's the same way I was leaning but wanted a bit of feedback, glad you have the same thought process. After flying the gripen I'm a little worried about it being sluggish not because of the wing loading more the low amount of thrust with little efflux into the fan. The gripen is fast at speed but doesn't like getting up on step so to speak.

                                  • I agree about the Gripen. If you compare the two's specs the Gripen is only 2350g w/o battery, it really shouldn't be as sluggish as it is. That said the Gripen is my favorite plane and I have three, a repainted JF/HET 8s one with TV, a box stock 6S no TV and a spare in the box. The Gripen really benefits from moving the balance back which is difficult as the battery can't be moved very far aft. I moved everything I could aft, use a light weight 575g 5000 battery and added quite a bit of lead in the tail cone. It also needs more canard throw than the servo geometry allows, I put in longer servo arms. My 8S with TV is simily weight challenged. Even though the TV adds aft weight the extra 2S battery adds counterweight to it. I have 3 D printed missiles on both that also add a slight bit of rearward weight.

I put the FMS edf unit in my Gripen and it is quite acceptable now. For CG issues you can either add the VT unit, or replace the stock nozzles with my "heavy" nozzles (which look better too).

The Gripen needs weight in the tail to achieve an acceptable CG position. This nozzle has accommodation for up to 60g of small lead weights, in addition to weighing over 60 grams itself. Print wide-side down, with supports. You will need to peel off the plastic outer of the stock nozzle, and trim back the foam to leave a stub 13mm long to which you glue the new nozzle. I suggest taping the join on the inside to ensure smooth airflow,

                                      • I was quite surprised with how difficult it was to get the proper CG on that plane. it flies well now but didn't tick the boxes I was expecting it to. still love it all the same. everyone tells me I was spoiled after flying the mirage. I must admit i agree now

                                        • Yeah, the Mirage is pretty special especially with the newer fan. When it first came out it was kinda doggy to and I made my first one 8S. When better fans came out, numbers 2,3 and 4 stayed 6S...
