My new plane got here last night and I started to put the wing halves together, had the same issue with the first one. The Dihedral (the bend) in the aluminum wing spar seems too great not allowing the wings to mate, so I took some of the bend out of it. Now holding one side flat to my table and measuring the distance from table top to bottom of tube on the opposite side (raised) I have 1-1/8th inch or 28mm lift, the wing goes together fine now. Has anyone else had this issue or if your wings went together perfectly I would like your measurements. Maybe one of the awesome guys at Motion can charm in with some input. This is the second model I have had this issue with. The other plane flew great minus the ESC issue, but I failed to measure the spar when I was done unbending it. Another issue is the plastic tubes that the aluminum and carbon spars slip into have to be filed down they extend past the wing surface.

Oh hey take a close look at the decal under the cockpit with the USAAF designation for this plane.. It says P-51D-25 lol something I noticed when going over my plane last night.

Mine was the same way Sean. I ground down the lip of the tubes with a Dremel and sanded the foam a little, keeping the original diehedral of the aluminum spar, until the wing fit together so that the joiners, front and rear where the wing hold down screws go, fit well in the recessed area of the foam.

My P51 the Marie version had the same issue whereas you had to do some finessing with a little rotation of the wings as the pre-bent alum spar was inserted. It went with ease when you had the right geometry aligned. Kinda reminded of those "magical" steel rings that are at parties. At first you can't believe they can be connected until someone shows ya how then you go duuhhh.

I must have got lucky, mine seemed fine, although I find it interesting that it mated better with a little unbending. I'm not quite sure what you are referring to with the rod coming through the wing surface or the tube that it inserts into coming through the surface?

While I'm thinking about it, how did your CG work out? I've been playing around with mine and I can get her slightly nose down at 110 by moving the battery forward slightly. How about you?
Just my quick two cents.... I didn't have trouble inserting either of the spars. They fit into the tubes fine. When the left and right wings were pushed together with the spars inserted, the spar tubes hit each other so that the wing didn't come together leaving a small gap at the top of the wing and a rather large one on the bottom of the wing that prevented the wing hold down battens from fitting into the recessed area of the foam and also prevented the holes for the wing hold down screws to align with the holes in the batten. The diehedral of the spar did not match the angle of the butt ends (or middle) of the wings had been engineered for apparently. Sean changed the angle on the aluminum spar so that the wings mated better. I did not change the spar diehedral and instead trimmed the lip of the tube so they wouldn't touch each other which allowed the gaps between the wings close up enough to allow a proper fit. The upshot is that Seans plane now probably has less diehedral than mine does. It really wasn't that hard of a fix as I only had to grind away maybe 1/8th of an inch off the plastic tube ends to make everything fit together good enough. My CG is just a tad nose heavy with a 3600mah battery on the tray and wheels up.
I have to give it to the guys at Motion RC motionrc.com, two thumbs up for customer service! This morning I was going over my Mustang checking screws and flight surfaces making sure everything was secure when I noticed that the retract on the left wing looks cracked where the pin goes through to hold the strut (plastic is making a pyramid toward the front of the plane. I called Motion RC talked to Matt Maryan explained the issue, and with no questions asked is sending me a new retract. A few years back I got a FMS plane from Nitro Planes that had an issue right off the bat, I called them and they more or less told me that it was my problem and would not back their product so I had to buy the part (the part was defective out of the box). The experience with NP more or less killed me for online hobby shops. In fact had I not wanted This version of this plane I would not have bought online. Thanks to this experience with Motion RC my confidence has been renewed, I will definitely be doing more business with them again! Thanks Motion RC!!!
I have to agree with you. They just fixed an issue for me that was the manufacture's and not theirs. Talk about customer service at its best, this is it.
Lauren, have you checked your CG with the gear retracted? I did not think mattered but I can dig up a video that was posted on rcgroups that proved me wrong. Just asking?

LOL! I can never figure out if retracted means wheels up or down. :D I do notice that it is slightly more nose heavy with the wheels down than up as I recall Not a whole lot but a bit more. I've been flying with the battery on the rear of the tray. That what ya mean?

Using admiral 3600 battery toward the front edge of the tray my CG is spot on with gear up.
I just made and finished editing the build video. I describe what I faced building this plane. As soon as it is uploaded I will post it here. The video is 1 hour 18 minutes long lol.
