      • According to Lon, this is 5/8 inches back, lines up with the end of the third exhaust stack.
Let's see how do I explain it to Todd in Rocker mode, oh yeah...

          • If I put my 4S 4000 battery where that 3600 is, mine would do a back flip immediately on rotation! :)

                  • I just flew my second flight in a giant windstorm because that's how I roll, LOL!

Remember in Forest Gump where Lieutenant Dan helps Forest on his shrimp boat and a giant storm comes in, and he defiantly screams at Mother Nature..."Is that all you got!!?!?!" And laughs maniacally?
Well that was me a few minutes ago when I took Iron Ass back to the school with the winds blowing my hat off...SUCK IT MOTHER NATURE!!!!

(No P-51's were harmed during the foolish second flight)... :)

                    • Flew the maiden and two additional flights today on Iron Ass w/o sound system, used a 4S 40C 4000 all the way forward and it still needed 1 1/2 ounces of lead get CG right to settle it down in pitch. The Mustang needed full throttle almost the entire flight but that's ok for now, may upgrade later on. It sure look great in the air and those landing lights get a lot of comments.

Added a little paint to improve the scale looks, just need to airbrush the engine exhaust stains and gun residue.

                      • Nice job! Yep she needs lead alright, even with that fat 4000 shoved fore. She's no screamer stock but I hear we can give it the zip tie mod like the 1700...

                              • Mine arrived an Friday. I have one with sound and one without sound. I used the Airfield P-51 props, which have more pitch and really makes a difference in flight.

                                • Hey, good to know Pheonix.
I have always used that square on the top of the wing to balance the plane, its actually the gear light assembly base sticking through the wing. based on that, here are some pics of both the soundless (Iron Ass) and with sound (Old Crow) versions balancing out at 105mm, or, on the square.
Don't forget, I have a 650kv motor in Old Crow so the batteries may be a little further back than stock.
Also, you can see I've started in on the painting too. The exhausts are painted with Humbrol's 'rust' and the exhaust shrouds are painted with Testors 'chrome'. The stainless steel engine panels are painted with Testor's "steel' (surprise!) for the 'wet look, Two coats of Varathane. Gun smoke is next....

                                    • IMHO, they have to be painted, it's the modeler in me I guess. I'm probably going to change the name as well.
Time to whip out the spray gun and get some smoke on both of them, haven' done OC since the wing change.

                                        • I kicked around the idea of doing Glamorous Glennis as well, so I'd have both Bud's and Chuck's planes. But, in the end I've decided to roleplay and do what the Mustang pilots of WWII did and dedicate it to my wife. I like the 4th FG livery so I'll keep the red nose, but I'll work with Callie to get some nose art designed.
First of all, I was lucky enough to marry the greatest girl I ever met and 11 years later, I still feel the same. So , as I say to her often, so shall I name my plane
                                          "My Little Gal"
If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have the plane in the first place, so.......

Anyway, got the Iron Ass decal off last night with scotch tape and heat, everything right down to the foam came off so I'm in the process of reapplying the paint. It's a little time consuming, but well worth it.

The gun smoke turned out great, I'll keep you posted
