  • hey guys...going to attempt a second flight on this one tomorrow. just going back over the CG problem I had on the maiden flight.. just a refresher on the maiden,I had the lipos all the way back, and added 1.7 oz to the tail..which,on the balancer it showed just a tad nose heavy (see post 103 on pg 6) .
so here I am today..only removed .7 oz from the tail ..and this is what I get. not much of a change from before and its way nose heavy...this is 105mm from LE . I just dont think that .7 oz would make it fly tail heavy vs what you see here..any thoughts?

    • From what I'm seeing, you have the CG set a little further back than I have mine. The square on the wing is what I use and I'm pretty sure Lon does too. Don't forget that the Leading Edge is tricky on these as it has that taper right at the root of the wing.
As a matter of interest, set the pad of the CG balancer inside the square, and have your battery installed 5/8" back from the front of the hatch and see if it balances there. I have mine so that the pad just touches the front edge with the non sound system one and just touches the rear edge with the sound system version.

I'm going at 105mm just like i seen in your photo...Thing to remember though, is i don't have the sound system, I run with a 3600 4s Admiral (380g) or 3300 5s (450g)...YES, that doesn't change where the CG of the plane is, but i could see where your battery placement would be different for sure....BUT YES, CG of 105 and about 10-15 degree nose heavy on your CG machine. That should have you in the ball park, and adjust from there for your personal tastes.

              • Hey Gman, Aros, and Doc. The only varathane I have been able to find in Fayetteville NC is triple thick. I was just checking to see if this is okay. Lowe's does not carry it and there is only one home depot in town. Any recommendations as to use as is or should I thin. If so what ratio do you recommend????

Flew her today...Still tail heavy...Added weight so she should be good to go from here out. Fun flyer and sure looks the part.

                  • got this one in the air today too...the advice Grossman gave worked perfect. just needed a little trim..still a tad tail heavy. not much. she flies great now. had a mishap on landing though...got it down, and was almost a perfect landing, until a strong crossing forced me towards the grass edge just as the two mains touched down. snagged a big clump of grass and ripped one of the MG legs right out..mount and all..dont think that wouldve happened if there had been some glue in there..hardly any at all., but that was all the damage ,except a snapped peg on the gear door. too bad too, had 5 more lipos to burn through.

I found it on line for you. Now, if it wasn't at Lowes, it was at Home Depot then, the wife and I binge shop when we hit Billings!
Interesting though as I found that they sell it in a satin, a semi gloss and a gloss which might make the degree of gloss easier. Aros was looking for a dull finish, maybe the satin would work.

                      • Thank you Gman. I'll jump on and order some. For some reason the home depot here only carries the 3x stuff.
