  • Periscopes & View ports for our tanks?

Hi guys, I've been wanting to add periscopes to the wide open holes-view ports on my current project Jadgpanther, or any of my previous tanks.

I searched old posts here and other forums but most posts are circa 2020 or earlier so I wondered if there are any newer solutions of news?

Here a member UltraVargen had some 3D printed- https://www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/rc...ger#post258668

I wonder do they have to be model specific but I guess they would.

Then I saw Zippersnappers post which was promising- https://www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/rc...ge2#post308811

But I don't have access to a laser and I'm not sure about working with acrylic. I just started working with styrene.

I also saw a post by Rubicon99 about ordering the lenses from Tamiya parts-https://www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/rc...ams#post308811

But I had a hard time locating them.

Other forums have great modelers as well fabbing up the scopes as well from "leftovers" which I don't have.

Any suggestions or advice welcome guys. Thanks,

    Chef

Ps I found these Schumo ones but they're not available- https://www.axels-modellbau-shop.de/...ther-1-16.html

Here is a few ideas. Taigen would work good when removed from the hatches but the shipping is more than double the parts cost. Shapeways is a cool site for all sorts of 1/16th stuff.

Thanks for sharing. These are interesting options. I'm sure I could put an order together of other stuff from Taigen to make shipping worth while. Too bad I didn't see those a few weeks ago for my last order. But of course I'd amass a pile of metal Tiger I hatches. I'll get in touch with them to see if they're offered possibly separately. The UK would be even worse shipping. Shapeways is looking good I'd just wonder if theyd be the same for a Tiger/KT and Jagdpanther probably not though.

      Thanks

A lot depends on whether the periscope is to be viewed whole (hatch can be opened and entire device observed) or just from outside ( front lens / glass is visible and at the right angle, the mirror behind it). If the latter, you only need a piece of clear plastic, such as can be cut from packaging material, glued in the opening and a bit of aluminum foil or silvered mylar, etc. glued at an angle behind it. If the former, you could use pictures of actual tank periscopes as a guide and build one out of glued up card stock, then paint and install it. They are basically rather boxy devices that just slide up into position. All you really need for tools is a ruler and xacto knife.
