I see! I will open up one Tamiya IR receiver to "twist" and test it out. Thank you!

For all RC tank destroyers, the LegoDEI tank destroyer sunshade is allowed to be installed. One of the IR bulbs in the receiver must face directly forward. The tank destroyers will slightly be protected at the 45 degree angles but not at 90 degree angle. There will be no more electrical taping at the front of the IR receivers except for the Tamiya IR receivers. I don't have the solution for the Tamiya IR receiver yet if it is installed on the Tamiya tank destroyers. However, not any player in my club has a Tamiya tank destroyer (except me, heheh)

So for players with tank destroyers, you can protect yourselves by turning your tanks at the 45 degrees toward the enemy. When you want to shoot, you turn your guns toward the enemy. You can shoot and be vulnerable to get hits at the same time. I did some testings and I feel it will be quite fair in battle for both tanks and tank destroyers going against each other.

We will test out this setup the next few events and see how our players will respond.

For the Tamiya tank destroyer all you need to do is "twisted" the internal IR pyramid mirrors 1/4 turn. This will move the built in deflection to 45 degrees off the front, think "X" pattern. The tank will be invulnerable from beyond 20 feet to hits at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock position. This set up has been in use by the clubs at Danville, PHX, LA, SD, TX, FL for years.

Setting up the Lego in the same "X" pattern with the IR bulbs at the 2, 4, 8 and 10 o'clock positions and using the "45 shade" will accomplish the same thing as twisting the Tamiya mirror. With the IR bulb forward in the 12 o'clock as you have it shown above will not improve the difficulty of hitting it from the front and in fact only will mimic the standard hit and deflection arrangement of the unmodified Tamiya IR receiver. Which means it will be easy to hit anywhere in the front 45deg arc of the tank.
