The Mirage has had three different fans stock during it's 10 year run (so far)...

The overall cost was about $340, yes very pricey but I can contest, worth it for my beloved Tomcat. After the upgrade the CG changed a bit as the new inrunner fan covers are plastic and not metal much lighter and efficient.
One of the main reasons I switched was because one of my newly purchased outrunner motors was badly vibrating (I inspected all but couldn't find the issue, everything was tight). It vibrated the right wing so bad that one of my servo covers came off during flight and the flap servo was dangling!
The re-maiden went smoothly, the sound was clean and most of all flight time can be extended now, as my 2x HRB 5000's 6s lipos had 50% left after 4 mins of flight time. Now I can extend the timer to 5 min, I didn't have use full throttle either it was flying great at half throttle! So now I highly recommend this upgrade also, it took me about 8 yrs smh.
The Freewing 80mm Tomcat has been an absolute joy and privilege to fly! I hope she gets the proper upgrades if a V2 releases one day.
Congrats, my friend, worth the wait, time and expense, it would seem.
Best to you and yours this Thanksgiving Day.

I did reenforce the battery floor and nose gear mount.
I am in the process of buying 2150's and reversing ESCs to build #3.

I don’t see any unusual wear, I fly from the grass doesn’t take long to get some worn places on the fan. If you have concerns just install 2 new there pretty cheap. I just finished mine up again went to a 10 channel Spektrum AS3X+ to disable ailerons on wing sweep. Unfortunately it’s just been to windy for me to remaiden her, the new EDF’s really wake the F14 up since I did mine I couldn’t be happier. Cheers and hope all goes well with your upgrades, another I’d suggest is the battery tray mod and like mine installing a balsa reinforcement for the front gear otherwise you’ll need grease landings to not break things

It doesnt look to terrible if you ask me. I bought a brand New f22 90mm and the fan was rubbing on the wall so i contacted motion and they say that there is nothing wrong or faulty. So i have been flying like this for many many flights no problems. Maybe its just that, keep an eye on maybe some wobble during throttle and abnormale sounds.
maybe its a good idea try to clean it with some apc ok a towl/cloth and some ear cleaning sticks

Hello all. May as well do a little history on myself and the jet. I'm 57. Been flying since I was 19. I bought the jet used. It's in fairly good shape. The first two months of owning it it just sat on my coffee table looking like a God. Such an magnificent looking jet. So I bought it to fly it. So after doing some homework I set it up and flew it. Two 5200 batt's. It was a maiden so flew around a little over half throttle with my timer set at 3min. Start coming in for the landing approach and it goes dead in the turn. Pull throttle back regain control surfaces. This jet has such a presence in the air. Incredible looking and flying jet. Before I seen the wreckage I already knew I was getting another. After searching for a while. You wouldn't think such a big jet would be so hard to find in 3ft of soy bean plants. But after about an hour and standing on the roof of the truck we found it. To my amazement this jet is extremely tough. The front piece broke off clean broke one of the wing attachment points to the servo arm and bent a servo arm on the wing sweep mechanism. All in forty dollars in replacement parts. I don't know what happened that time I have flown it successfully at least five or six times. So I bought two 2150 12 blade and a 100-watt electronic speed control power systems from two different sellers. One fan looks great. The other fan looks like the pictures I'm showing you. The seller says this is normal and that my other fan must not have been ran up and this is what happened when they get pounded and ran in the first time or two. I would like you guys opinion on if the fan is good to go or should I get a new one? I also plan on doing all the mods over the winter. I'm in Michigan so flying season just about done. I just bought a whole new fuselage. I think it was like 1:40 shipped of the house. I figure my time is more valuable got to go over that fuselage I have and repair all the dings and whatnot. And considering you get the wings sweep cover , and everything except the nose cone I think that's a pretty good price. I'm going to do carbon fiber upgrades for the landing gear and the battery tray area etc. great forum thanks for the help.2 Photos

Replaced the gun sight. Definitely looks better in this video. You can definitely tell the weight improvement on the loop I did in this one.

It's alot of fun doing this, I also play alot of dcs, and it's pretty cool how to me it feels almost the same flying these jets fpv as it does flying the simulator in vr. They have a very similar feel.

rifleman_btx, Outstanding and it never ceases to amaze my tiny brain how you do all this. Best, LB

Here's my rebuilt tomcat after I crashed it due to a failure on my part to properly go though the preflight checklist that is alittle more involved with digital fpv. Basically I forgot to set the air unit to full power, and lost video just as soon as it left the runway. The rebuild was done much better and lighter than the body it replaced. And it is definitely noticeable.
