I get what you’re saying but in my case I was flying at about two-thirds throttle into the wind and she suddenly started rolling almost like a drill bit.

Without ground video it's impossible to surmise exactly what happened.

Two concepts being missed here…
-1 An aircraft can be stalled at any airspeed and in any attitude. All that’s required is the airfoil must reach its critical angle of attack. A strong gust at the wrong angle can induce a stall regardless of your throttle setting or attitude.
- 2 Once an aircraft is airborne, it cannot sense steady natural wind….strong gusts excepted.

Whin I take newbie pilots up in a full scale aircraft, I ask them to tell me what the natural wind is doing. They cannot tell me the answer. They can only look at and read the airspeed indicator. Unless they can see a GPS readout, they cannot tell me our ground speed which is true airspeed plus or minus natural wind. Yes…a zero ground speed is possible with a strong headwind natural wind or even flying with a backwards ground speed is possible, but the airplane is perfectly happy…it doesn’t know. It flies on airspeed.

An RC pilot “sees” his aircraft’s ground speed. Example…let’s say at 50% throttle and level flight, an on board GPS always records 60 mph ground speed. At sea level on a standard day, the airspeed will be 60 mph. The RC pilot will “see” the airplane go by at 60 mph on a calm day.

Now throw in a 40 mph natural head wind….The RC pilot at 50% throttle “sees” his bird going by at only a SLOW 20 mph!!!!

This may make him think he’s gonna stall! NOPE!

So, an RC pilot must constantly be responding to the “visual” of ground speed vs his transmitter control settings. Throttle back and stick back and aircraft going by with the wind (tail wind)….the bird’s about to stall regardless of how fast the pilot sees the aircraft “moving” past him!

Conversely, at 50 % power and flying level against a 50 mph natural headwind, the RC pilot sees the aircraft moving at only 10 mph and might be concerned about an impending stall. NOPE! All is fine. The airspeed is 60 mph.

The RC pilot must not let the thought of “flying into the wind” or “flying with the wind” override what his transmitter settings are telling him. Low throttle and stick being held back should be telling tge RC pilot he’s about to stall regardless of how “fast” he “sees” the aircraft moving.

It’s a lot of words to caution an RC pilot from thinking that flying into the wind or flying with the wind should make an aircraft stall or not stall. FLIGHT DIRECTION MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IN WHETHER YOU ARE NEARING THE CRITICAL ANGLE OF ATTACK!
Flight direction determines ONLY GROUND SPEED.

CONTROL INPUTS determine air speed (i.e., attitude, throttle, elevator, throttle inputs = airspeed).

It’s a complex concept for RC pilots to wrap their head around. But, some rides in a full scale aircraft will aid in this understanding.

I end by asking my passenger, “Tell me now…what is the natural wind doing outside our cockpit?” They don’t have a clue and cannot answer.

I throttle back and raise the nose by pulling back on the stick (control inputs) and the plane starts to buffet and the passenger will say, “We are about to stall.” Hmmmm…did my passenger say anything about the natural wind? NOPE!

Aside: While on the ground, natural wind is air speed. If I am on the ground and pointed into a natural wind of 20 mph and not moving, my airspeed indicator will be reading 20 mph. That’s why we take off into the wind.

According to the diagram and physics, everything is correct... however, I don't think that a roll like a drill, as subhan describes, can be triggered solely by a stall. A tipping over, yes, but a complete spin like a drill, not so much. Perhaps the gyro isn't programmed correctly for flying in wind... the gyro needs to be set differently than for calm winds. However, that should only lead to a rocking motion, not a complete spin like a drill!

I think this case is extremely difficult to assess without having seen the flight in person or on video. Furthermore, the F-16 is absolutely not prone to stalls.

Congrats edf ! The HSD F-16 is a nice model. That battery should work just fine, just make sure the CG is good. I think 178mm is the sweet spot but please verify that first.

She's not 1:1 so she does feel a bit heavy in the air. You do sense the wing load, but she doesn't have any real bad habits. Keep the aileron throws gentle (definitely dual rates), all the usual stuff with a scale F model. I haven't mixed flaperon/taileron with her before but many love doing it so something to consider.

Oh, a very beautiful bird. This is the newest version and looks great in the aggressive colors. I use the same setup with the Freewing 90mm 8S V2. I fly the HSD with the large wingspan (approx. 134cm) in the V3 version with an S-EDF, just like yours. This F-16 flies very well, in my opinion. Not too fast, but can be flown wonderfully true to scale (demo, solo, and display flights). Its weight and size give it a natural inertia, which makes this jet very easy to fly. Takeoff and landing are no problem either. I personally fly all my EDF jets with Spektrum AS3X+ with a tail-heavy center of gravity – this makes my models very easy to fly and very agile when needed. I can't quit this bird, lol! Especially since my last one was lost due to orientation and not Dumb Thumbs. I got a response back:

Importing products have slowed down due to import fees. The increased cost has left us with a difficult decision. Do we wait it out or bring in a container and raise the prices 30-50%.

I was recently told a container will be coming this spring. I have no date and I don’t know what will be included in that container.

Sorry this isn’t much help. But I personally have felt the pain of import fees when I purchased a bunch or items from the Netherlands.

Well, I sold all my EDF jets over the last few months and haven't flown anything in a while and I really enjoyed flying my two HSD F-16's. I was doing some searching and see HSD has some new liveries coming and looks like they are bringing back the Gray version, anyone know anything about this??
I just may be getting back into it if its true....

Yeah I have been downsizing my jets as well. Too many crashes and heartache in recent years so I am back to mostly Warbirds. I thought I heard somewhere that HSD was not doing well hence why their PNP has been out of stock since about a year ago. I too could be tempted again if they release a new livery. It is such a cool jet and relatively inexpensive for the size. I'll let you know if I see something!

Yeah that black viper one with the green snake is pretty sick. Hard to go wrong with the gray version too of course. Never did like the Thunderbirds livery nor that Belgian Air Force livery. LOVED my Arctic Camo until I lost orientation.
