Ron, that grass that your V1 is on looks very similar to our grass runway.

Ron, I just noticed that you're a retired ATC. Our club president is also a retired ATC and has some great pilot and airplane stories to tell. I bet you do, too. :-)

I just caught up on this thread, and wanted to give a true novice input on the FW A-10. I moved from the Apprentice to the HH F4U (easy transition). Saw the FW A-10 and knew that had to be my next plane. I maidened the A-10 very successfully, and followed up with another successful flight and landing before it got too dark! I did install and used the flaps for takeoff and landing. I'm using the Admiral 4S 3600 with a 3 minute timer (which went by way too fast).
What would be a safe, expected flight time with this battery?
Great flier (on a DX9), however the aileron roll rate scared the crud out of me the first flight! I was most worried about the landing speed, but with full flaps was not an issue at all.

It is one of my fave planes now!! Here is a video from this past weekend...

Hey Goon, I saw on a different thread where you upgraded your landing gear to the 8mm F5's gear. Can you post some pics and describe the setup and install process? I really want to mod mine to some type of shock absorber type.

Fellow 64mm A-10 flyers. Do you think the upgrade landing gear for the V2 of the F-16 would work in the 64mm A-10? When my A-10 lands I could sure use a little cushion.

it isn't all that hard. Pretty simple in face since the actual retracts just drop right in. The only thing that you need to change are the mains. They need to be rotated and go in backwards. it sounds funny at first but actually works really well. Make a flat spot for the set screw and they are done. Minimal widening and foam removal needed to make them fit in the nacelles on the wing. The nose gear does require a little opening for the nose wheel but super quick with a dremel tool. Here is a video of them finished product.

I did some flying this weekend with my A-10. It hasn't seen any airtime in a while!! It needed a new ailerons servo and some TLC. Its back to normal now but will be getting replaced with the bigger 70mm version when it arrives.

Question for those that have put flaps on their A10 , did you use an elevator mix ? And if so up or down and how much compensation did you add to the elevators ?

I am new to the discussion group. Thank you to all of those who helped me make the decision to purchase the Freewing A-10 64cm. I have read this entire thread and found a lot of valuable information. Just ordered her this morning and can't wait to begin my adventure into EDF planes. I am an intermediate pilot and have most recently been been flying a Warbird. I know most of you have probably ordered the larger version, but I will still share my experiences as they happen. I ordered 4S-40C-4000 batteries as I did not have any four cells yet. (My P-47 is flown on three) Also ordered a scale pilot and will add the flaps (although it sounds like they are not needed) Thanks, Brian

Welcome to Hobby Squawk, Airliner Fan!

I strongly recommend flying your A-10 a few times stock to get used to its flying characteristics before deciding if you still want to install flaps. I'm one of the pilots who installed flaps and frankly didn't notice much of a benefit. Because this is your first EDF Jet, that's all the more reason to fly it stock before executing any modifications. Just my three cents ;)

                              Felixs10, I didn't use any flap-to-to elevator mix.

                              Have fun!

I am going to agree with Alpha on this one... Fly it stock and see what you think. It flies really slowly minus flaps and it really isn't a mod that needs to be done. Yes it can be done and will make the plane go even slower but at a price. It will require some more skill on the throttle when you use flaps...

I don't use hardly any flaps... just a touch when there is no wind.

She arrived yesterday.... I was able to work on her last night a bit. The first thing that I did was yank Mr. Potato Head out of the cockpit. Here is a picture of his replacement. Will send some photos once plane is together.

She is together and appears to be balanced. Made some minor paint changes, but nothing too drastic. Did a taxi test and things looked good. The engines are nice and loud. I was setting up my high and low rates. Went with 100% on high with 40% expo and 70% on low with 30% expo. QUESTION: There seems to be more than the recommended travel from the instructions. (Example:elevator at 4mm and 8mm) I am getting more like 8mm and 12mm....Should I lower my percentages to match the instructions or go with what looks right?

                                          Thanks, Brian
