Well there you go, now you have the configuration I have...bass in front, tt-25 in back. That should work out great with the Admiral 3600. I have my battery with the wires facing front, (only because it was easier for hook-up that way. I pushed it tight forward and strapped it in tight but it still slipped a bit so I glued a small piece of foam right at the rear so it doesn't move backward. Sort of like a backstop. (As long as I use the exact same dimension lipo's I'll be fine)
 You are correct Gman and boomer, I am totally a scale guy too. I don't need to tear up the sky. Good luck with the Old Crow paint job conversion Gman, that should be a challenge. I've been following your conversation about the 2 bladed prop and I agree with you....must  have a 4 blade. Show us some progress photos. Now we'll have three of us with loud mustangs!

Make that four with loud Mustangs!  My "Old Crow" is on its way and should be here Monday, and I'll be putting the sound system in configured exactly as you have.  As for the 2 blade vs. 4 blade prop issue, I was in on that discussion as well and just ordered the Iron Ass prop and spinner to put on the Old Crow.  I guess I'll just stick the 2 blade prop and spinner in a drawer somewhere. Not everyone wants to "hover" their Mustang and climb vertically forever, but I guess plenty of flyers do! :-/

I hear you Dave, I went the other route because of the way they were pooh poohing putting the 4 blade prop on Old Crow.  It apparently cuts back on the flight time of the battery, so you may want to try a 4000.

Looking forward to getting Iron Ass and converting her, she should look great when I'm finished

Yeah, know what ya mean about easier to hook up with wires to the front. It's 1:46 a.m. Saturday morning as I write this and have been in the shop MOST of the day getting ready to fly her later on today :rolleyes: . Spent most of the time repairing my Hangar 9 Cub after a really bad ground loop on landing last time I had her out :@ . Tore the tailwheel out and broke loose; where the wing joins the fuselage so had to take the windshield out cut away/replace covering...you get the picture :dodgy: . ANyway I think I'm starting to ramble on from lack of sleep so hopefully by tomorrow night I'll actually have something good to report on the maiden.

:( Still no maiden. Took her to the field today with every intent of a maiden fight, but was not to be.  First, the wind was mostly from the north which is the worst direction for the field at which I was flying. It's actually a very nice county park dedicated to model aviation http://www.stlouisaeropilots.org/_Buder/index_buder.php There is a line of tall trees to the south of the field which makes the approach with a north wind pretty short.  Spent most of the day flying other stuff and waiting for the wind to switch or at east die down some. Finally toward sunset things were better and I decided to go for it.  I had to take the wing off to get all the planes in my Santa Fe [img][/img] so that ment a reassemble at the field.  As you know, there are LOTS of wires so it took a while. Got it together and guess what, the starboard aileron didn't work :@ .  OK, take the wing off and find servo wire had pulled loose. No big deal, plug it back in (and tape together) reassemble. Yea, both ailerons working. Check balance and decide to check landing gear function.........tail door don't close :s .  This had always been fine during many tests at home BTW.  Check into it and see the z-bend in the servo arm is hitting the side of the servo and jamming it :dodgy: .  Decide this can easily be avoided by taking the servo arm off and running the wire from the opposite side of the arm. Great, all I need is a very small very short phillips...........Guess what I didn't have with me :P and by this time everyone else had left the field. Sooo.....bummer but I did taxi around a bit and got to run the motor up for the first time WHOA, bout pulled it out of my hand :cool: .
OK, loooong boring story I know, just had to vent ;)

I'm thinking you may be bummed but, all the problems you mentioned you found on the ground, not in the air so actually it's a good day maybe? I know you had to be saying, "Well what the #%*$ is wrong now!?" though! LOL!

  Could you get any more stuff into the back of that car?  WOW. I have a van and I don't that much in it.  I don't regularly take the wings off anything either. Really good that you found the aileron issue BEFORE you were in the air.  I have a recurring nightmare about my maiden with the Mustang and something like that happening and 300+ bucks, and weeks of work plowing into the earth.  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :(
  Did your CG work out after you switched the speakers around?  You were slightly tail heavy last you wrote.

:D I guess the answer would be YES, the P-47 in my avatar was in the passenger seat :D . I was kinda bummed but I'm over it and had a great time flying all the other stuff without incidence under less than ideal conditions. I'll go over everything real good one more time and leave the wing on this time  ;) .  Now I see I was trying to do too much in one day. As far as the CG, I didn't get to check it 'cause of all the other problems.  Speaking of which, as I was taxing around for pictures and such the sound system would completely quit for a couple of seconds and come back on.  This never happened once on the bench but I think I know what it was. This was the first test with the bass transducer and I think it was drawing more current and causing the board to protect itself by shutting down. I turned down the volume some and I'll see what happens next time. Hey if it was easy ANYBODY could do this....right? :rolleyes:

One question though, where have you put your receiver?  Seems to have skipped over that part in the not-so-easy-to-read manual.
From what I can see, it doesn't look as though it will be a hard conversion to make it into Old Crow, a little repainting on the nose for the most part and the invasion stripes on the lower half of the wings, along with the gunsmoke stains and the exhaust stacks being painted to the correct colors.  I have a few different silver paints coming and I'll try those out on some scrap parts to see if its a better representation of aluminum.
The one thing that I don't see represented on any other Old Crow Mustang is the hand painted "White Wall" tires that Bud had on Old Crow.

One thing to keep in mind is the space the gear sequencer and LED controllers take up when you attach the wing. Mine is mounted on the starboard side with the connectors pointing down toward the wing and up high enough to clear all the wires and boxes and a small sat. rec. up even higher.

On my Old Crow, which I finished tonight, I have the receiver mounted left side just behind the battery tray, with remote receiver tucked up underneath the battery tray (the large open area where a speaker would go).  Then, the LED controller and gear sequencer side by side right on top of the wing, just behind the leading edge.  My MrRC sound system is installed with the control board right on the front speaker grill (where the speaker for the Freewing sound system would normally go), while the front transducer is right side, just behind the battery tray, opposite the receiver, and the rear transducer is left sidewall in the HUGE rear speaker area.  Pictures of all this attached.  I do need to clean up the wiring a bit, but otherwise done, and she balances perfectly with a 3600, and just a bit nose down (which is how I like it) with the 4000.  I'm ready for next decent day to maiden her!  That may be several days as we have wet, cool, windy weather rolling in.  Good luck!

Hey Gman, my set up is almost identical to SR71CC's layout. My receiver is on the starboard side just aft on the battery. Wires are all facing back. I had the added placement of a separate UBEC and the gyro. I posted photos at the very beginning of this thread.

Lauren: It is! And so loud in my garage, which is beneath our bonus room (former man cave that my teenage daughter has claimed as her own) that she came running down in a panic when I fired the guns! I just loved that! :P

Great thanks guys!  I have my light and landing gear sequencers sitting on the forward part of the wing and played around with putting the receiver on the starboard side, thanks for the support.  SR, the Old Crow looks great, did they paint the invasion stripes on the bottom of the wing?
I got some of my silver paints today, thanks Lauren for the suggestion, its great paint.  Started blocking in the wings, giving some of the panels a slightly different shade the lfaps will be done with the brightest silver as they were bare metal on the real P51's.
Just waiting for the decal set to mask off the front nose, just don't want to paint over too much of the red.  Invasion stripes of the weekend project.  Most were painted over after D Day, leaving the undersides and some of the fuse stripes on.  Interesting that Bud's plane has two black and two white stripes on the fuse, the forward-most white stripe is missing. 
Hey SR, don't forget the white wall tires Bud hand painted on the real Old Crow!!

I'll take a pic of the bottom of the wing and post it. As for the whitewall tires, many references I see indicate that they were only on the P51B. Should I? They are kinda cool!
