Hey Steve, hoping to see this bird fly soon. I like the size and the scale details. Is that prop from the FlightLine Corsair? Wondering how that will work with the stock motor and what I assume is 8s on the batteries. Thanks for pioneering another cool plane.

Okay, went ahead and ordered one before they run out. Looks like a good compromise between a foamy and full on fiber glass/composite plane. I get the size I want, most of the work done, reasonably light weight, and spare parts replaceability. I have a beautiful Yellow Aircraft P-38 in the same scale but all fiberglass and weighs forty pounds. I am afraid to fly the damn thing. Far too much money in it, far too heavy and no easily replaceable parts.

Hey Comer, how does the plane fly? I assume that’s the stock motor with the Corsair three blade prop and two four s batteries.I’m thinking about going to 10s on the batteries. With 8s that prop is actually turning about 80 rpm less than the stock Corsair setup. With 10s, it would have a net gain of 370 rpm over the Corsair with the same prop. Since the Dauntless has a larger wingspan and more weight, it might help to have a little more power. Don’t want to over rev that prop though.

Hey Tidroplane, thanks for the input. Glad to hear the vario works out. I have two of those on a Yellow Aircraft P-38 that I have yet to fly. How did mounting the prop work out? Also wondering about flight times with that setup. Sure would love to see some video of this beauty in the air. What controller did you use?

No problems mounting the Vario prop, used a watt meter to set the correct pitch for the blades. Been flying it with a Spektrum transmitter, flight times have been kept to a little over five minutes at this point. No video as of yet, maybe before the season is over.

Hey Tidroplane, Yes, video and detail pictures would be great. So how are the landings with this plane? Do you use full flaps or some percentage? I land on the mains with most of my planes and let the tail slowly come down. Is that how it goes with the SBD? Have you tried the dive brakes? Does that motor/prop combo pull the plane around with authority or is it kind of sluggish. I was considering going to 10s which would give the motor another 400rpm at that kv but if it flies around well, I don't need the extra weight. Ok finally made enough room to open up the box and set out all the contents. No obvious damage to the kit and no big surprises. Looks really good for this price. Canopy could fit fuselage better and it would’ve been nice to have the canopy parts sized for operable conversion. Wondering about a source for aluminum standoffs for electric motor.

Landings are fine with the plane, just keep some throttle with your decent, 1/2 flaps with a good head wind, full with no light to no wind. The plane likes to land on the mains. Have not tried the dive brakes in the air, only looked at them on the ground, they look awesome! Suggested motor and Vario prop have plenty of pull on 8s, flies scale. By the way, I had said earlier that the 4s packs were 4500mah, they are in fact 5000mah. Yes the plane has the recomended motor.

Hey Tidroplane, thanks so much for the info. I will post some pictures of my progress. It will be glacial as I still have more goodies to get. A receiver, esc, maybe some Dubro wheels, nav lights at some point,etc. The motor, servos, and Corsair prop are on the way. This thread is for people to share their experiences for the benefit of all and it seems like some folks following this thread could chime in any time.🕙. Just sayin’

Hey Tidroplane, what did you use for standoffs for that electric motor? Also, here’s a few shots of the kit. I have removed the hatch under the wing center section and joined the power leads from the two retracts with a y harness. Next, I have to put together a temporary battery/receiver/esc setup to drop the mains in order to work on them.

Ok, got the cutting,drilling ,and tapping done for attaching the Corsair prop shaft to connect to the supplied prop shaft that came with the electric motor. The credit here goes to rcjetdude for coming up with this idea. Next will be the standoffs.

:star_struck:Okay making progress. All servos and hinges installed in outer wing panels for flaps and ailerons. No linkage yet though. Standoff bolts in place and length established for aluminum standoff tubes. Rcjetdude was right on. 55mm using the Corsair prop. Horizontal stabilizer glued in place as well. Aros has a friend who is using files from rcjetdude to make me a more detailed dummy radial engine for this beast. I have a receiver, esc, and batteries coming soon. Shipping times have seriously slowed down lately.

Ok more progress. Got the esc today. Played it safe and went to 130 amps. Finished installing elevator hinges and linkage and installed control horns and connected them to the pushrods. Got linkage in for ailerons.

Okay, here’s the dummy radial supplied in the kit and also, the dummy radial made by a friend from files supplied by rcjetdude. Also completed the rudder and tail wheel installation and linkage.

Ok latest update. I have all servos installed and linkage connected with the exception of the center wing section. Making progress on the dummy radial with cylinder heads and crankcase painted. I have a new and improved ignition ring on the way from my friend Glenn and the three blade Corsair prop is finally balanced.

Woohoo!! Finally joined the wing center section to the fuselage. Had to bring labeled servo lead extensions up through the top of the center section and feed them into fuse for connecting to receiver later. The other end of most leads terminate at wing joint for connecting to flaps, dive brakes, and ailerons . Wing fit looks good along fillets. No instructions on this but there are two holes in the bottom of the center section that are exposed by cutting out the covering that allow for the two nylon wing bolts to screw into the fuse. I cut it with a star shape so the covering could fold in around the holes.
