  • Thank you for the info Mike , appreciate it .
I am going to try get the 6s vertical in the cowl from the bottom.
My cowl has holes in the bottom so repairs will be needed regardless.

    • Can anyone tell me the length of the wing bolts ? Mine seem to be an odd mix of plastic bolts that may not have come with the model.
Also anyone else have challenges with all the wires in the fuselage and wing when mouthing the two together ?

I just used standard 1/4 DuBro nylon bolts and trimmed them as needed. As far as the wiring there's a lot going on there. I ended up using a custom harness I got from a guy over at RC Groups, that made my life so much easier. My biggest issue is having to remove the wing to install my battery.

. Thanks , did all of your screws end up at the same length ?

I"m really not sure what your referring to. I just mount the wing and use a driver with the proper socket till they are snug.

            • No worries I will figure it out . I bought this TBM second hand , it was a glow engine model being converted to 8s power by me. The wing screws that came with the model were all different lengths so my first attempt to connect the wing was pointless. I have new Dubro wing bolts coming today .

I have a one click wing connection to fusleage for easy set up. The challenge is that the receiver with the ESC plug ends up further forward then in the previous glow set up. This results in the receiver ending up in an area that will protrude into the wing and create resistance to assemble the wing to the fuse. So I recessed the receiver into the bottom of the cockpit and will make it scale with added details. I dont want to extend the ESC connection any further to the receiver.

So funny story , I got the entire model set up and the most difficult part was getting the wing bolts on ! I read that at one point Mike you had some issues with alignment , seeing your building skills, it may just be the kit. When the screws enter into the long tube ( very tight ) they come of the top of the wing and may not align. I ended up taking the following steps.

I use painters tape, tear off a small piece for the front belly pan to fuse and rear belly pan to the fuse. This keeps the wing seated perfectly while you push the wing bolts and turn them into the fuselage. Not an easy task but I found this makes the process easier.

I incorporated the receiver and a gyro into the center cockpit removing all my organized connections into the base of base of the cockpit . Then I snap together the one master connector from the fuselage to the wing and my wing connection slide into an opening in the base of the cockpit. There is no chance of the wires binding and keeping the wing from sitting flush ( as you know) getting the wing flush can be challenging.

Second I use a long driver labeled TBM because this particular screwdriver has the perfect fitting head. So I start the thread with a screwdriver and finish with a small power battery driver.

Sounds crazy but my bolts line up perfectly but still challenging.

Yea this one has a few challenges but they can all be overcome. The kit is now back in production and I've actually thought about picking up another one.

1/9 scale Skyshark RC TBM Avenger. 72" wingspan 54" long Includes fiberglass cowl, full-sized plans, canopy sections and turret, printed instruction manual, and all laser cut parts, sticks, and sheeting needed to build the kit.

                  • Hey Mike , question for you please. I am considering making my wing /belly pan area removable and attaching with magnets. The reason is to allow for easy access to wing bolts and mounting holes in the fuselage Bay area. Do you feel the bat area is a critical structure of the wing center section or simply added for scale outline ? When I look at your building pics, it would appear I could by the cutting the bay and building in a simple frame with magnets. I am just trying to get a simple direct connection to the wing bolts vs feeding them through the long tubes.

No not structural but it will take a lot of work and modification to do so. Your modeling skills are the only thing stopping you, since you didn't build the model.

                      • Great and thanks for the feedback. I am not concerned in my skill level , I just have to plan my cuts so the process is neat, efficient and orderly.
