Jim, I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I used the sample Oracle that you sent me on That's My Gal II, it was great around the canopy frame and the speaker covers and rear landing gear doors.
One thing I noticed though, it wasn't as sticky as the Flite Metal. Do you use any adhesive or is there anything you do to prep the plane? The Oracle film is beautiful and a bit easier to work with.
You were putting out an article on using it, did you ever get it out? If so, I definitely want a copy!
BTW, If you want a sample of Flite Metal, I'd gladly send it to you. Seriously, I think the Oracle is the way to go if you have a good adhesive.

Xviper,
Glad to hear you are liking the 650 motor. I am working on a new B model and installed the 650 and an 85 amp ESC with intentions of flying 4 cell. I'm wrapping this one, so it will be about 100 grams heavier than stock.
Hope to have it done this weekend or early next week.
Jim

I don't think I ever posted about this on this forum but I've been flying my 1450mm P-51 with the 650kv motor for that last several flights. I kept the 120A ESC from the 6 cell setup and have gone back to 4 cells and the stock 4-blade prop. Performance is more than adequate now (much better than stock) and a friend flies his FMS P-40, from which this 650kv motor came. The P-40 is marginally faster than my P-51. I think if I had the same 3-blade or even a 2-blade, the P-51 would go as good or better. Anyway, I'm quite happy with the it now and I may only go back to the 6 cell set up only if I want a couple of flights with much gusto.Originally posted by Grossman56 View PostJust to put the thread back on the map. Hoping the weather gets better wind wise on the weekend, I'm hoping to get Old Crow into the skies, should be interesting to see how she does with the 650kv.
The way she's rigged out now, I could also go 5s on her, one step at a time though.
What I'm hoping is that it works great (obviously) and that will be the route to go with My Little Gal II. When Mike flew her at Nefi, it was one thing he pointed out. That Freewing P51's (pre FW's Old Crow) are underpowered. With the Flite Metal, it added more weight to the point of having to add even more to CG it out. He was showing me that between three quarter throttle and full there really isn't any difference and landing it is at about half throttle. So, she's screaming for more power.
Anyway, it'll be great to see if this makes up for the weight of the sound system, which means it should compensated for the Flite Metal as well.

Wow I can't believe that when I started on the forum I was a die hard Corsair pilot and now I own more P51s than I do them. It's amazing what happens when you hang out with a different crowd😊. I'm not complaining though. As soon as Ferouis Frankie gets here the real fun is going to start. Told Weedsnager he made a old man very happy.

More than I care to remember! That was a ten year project, from piece of junk that was sitting in the bush at the side of a runway to pristine static display piece.
As for the P 51, I'll leave her the way she is. They came from the factory with painted wings and that was my goal, to make her look like a factory finish. The wings were actually filled and sanded at the factory in order to get the laminar flow perfect, so they were painted silver. I used pictures of Lil Margaret for reference. When I drove past Danville, all I could think of was that Lil Margaret was here somewhere, I'd love to see her.

Keep it where you have two wear the sunglasses. I like it Dan. Alot of elbow grease on the one on the right.

Gman that looks great! Will you do the main wing some day or leave it?

Had a slow night so I thought it was time to do some polishing on My Little Gal. Out with the Wenol, she looks amazing!
So now I've went full circle, mind you she's a little smaller than what I used to spend my time polishing.....

Oh so cool, picture, lots of pictures!!
I wanted to eventually get one and do it up like Bob Hoovers Yellow Bird or Miss America, both airplanes I saw Bob fly over the years, unforgettable.
Good luck with her Dewey!!

Hey Dan I finally got a call from Weedsnagger. Looks like I'll be the proud owner of a 1700mm Frankie soon.

I didn't have to modify anything. They just dropped right in. Terry at Small Parts told me that he'd take them back if they wouldn't fit on the P 40, but they were perfect!

I hear that
Bought a set back when I first joined my club to use helping guys on helicopter. Thanks for the information. Did you do the gear doors to. I hadn't looked to see if there's enough room yet.

I did the same and whatever fit on the control rod was what I used. Just remember to recenter you control surfaces. I went so far as to put one on the tail wheel of the Pandora as that is a real PITA when the plastic clevis breaks. The ball link pliers are a great tool to have as well.

Yes I know Dan. I am glade that I got my P40 a couple of months back. Still sitting in the box though. I hope to put it together soon.
I need some more of your wisdom. I also ordered the balls and buckles from the old crow. I figured on just bolting the ball to the control arm and then putting the buckle on the rod. I was wondering if this was the route you took when you changed over your B model. Also I was wondering which of the buckles you used and on what control surface. I ordered both. The 1.2 and the 1.5 mm. If you could let me know I would appreciate it. I really like the ball link over the clevisis. I'm really thinking of doing the same on my nitro planes as well but for right now just the electrics. So far I want to do my little 44" HobbyZone Corsair with safe, Airfield 1450 F4U Corsair, Dynam F6F Hellcat, FMS Snoots Sniper 1450 and the Pandora. I don't have to worry about Iron Ass and the P40 because there already done. After I knock out the electrics then I'll start on the nitros with my Pheniox Spitfire as the test platform. So if you could help me out I'd appreciate it.

They went into the P40 like they were made for it, perfectly!
The P51B is a great plane and its a good time to scoop one up, and you're right, paint can be changed!!
As for the price hikes, take a look at this, right from the HH website. They are telling us that the P40 is on sale at $359. regular price is $414. Funny, the release price was $359, I should know, I bought one. Now that is the sale price, so brace yourself....

Hey Dan
I ordered the FMS Snoots Sniper instead of the spitfire. Probably made a mistake but I couldn't resist the price and if been wanting a B model with all the version 8 features. Don't like the color but that can be changed. Took yours and everybody else's advice and call Terry at small parts and ordered the metal side plates for it and the p-40 as well. BTW how well did they fit the p40. Anyhow I'll be looking for advice on setup and paint. So please bear with me.

Yeah I dont think many of the prices will double. I can see the small stuff going up but nobody is going to pay a 100 for a fuse or 100 for a wing set. I do beleive Tom though but some of the stuff is spendy now
