Pre-Flight checks: c clips on wheels, Cycle LG a couple times, check screws main wings and tail
Maintenance: Clean and threadlock grub/set screws in LG, loctite 425 is safe for metal to plastic, dont use the red loctite. Clean tail retract housing and lubricate links, check grub screw, prop screws.

Mods: Prop zip tie mod to change pitch. When doing this mod you will need to change the screws holding the prop blades, these work well http://rtlfasteners.com/RC/cm3020.html I would suggest getting some of these even if your not doing the mod, since the stock screws are phillips head and are soft and a bit short.FMS: PT-17, Waco, B-25, P-40, P-47, J-3

RE: ALL FMS 1450mm P-51's V8 +
My 6s modded FMS 1450mm P-51 is still going strong. I've got the Olympus motor and prop, with a 130A ESC. I'll be going back to my stock 4-blade prop in the spring.
PS. I'm another refugee from RC Groups. Those mods have a terrible problem of God complex. Besides, all the new models reveals happen here first anyway.

RE: ALL FMS 1450mm P-51's V8 +
Ahh, one of my favorite topics!
My P51B is stock except for the paint job.* I have ball links ready to go into her, but for now, she'll stay that way.* Actually the only mod I've done to her, to both Mustangs in fact, was to change out the plastic sides of the retract servos to all metal pieces through CNP Small Parts
**http://smallpartscnc.com/index.php?r...product_id=193
If you haven't already got these, they are worth their weight in gold!!
To my P51D, I've gone with the upgraded 580kv motor with a Mantis 85a ESC, changed all the links to ball links and*modified the cockpit to look more realistic and changed out the pilot
She's quite the sight to see fly.
Oh, if you're wondering, about 4 or 5 coats of Minwax. Varathane is a better way to go though.

jiggz, welcome and no sorry necessary. Thats a beautiful MkIII. I until recently did not know about the Malcom hood.
Grossman56, glad you joined us and I'm jealous ! You have both the Stangs I am wanting. They look great. I have been doing the Minwax for many years, but have never done the varathane. Whats better about the Varathane ?FMS: PT-17, Waco, B-25, P-40, P-47, J-3

RE: ALL FMS 1450mm P-51's V8 +
Great thread Olwarbirds! I have the P-40 motor coming for my P-51B DD (which is still a work in progress) and looking forward to testing it out!
Good to see you boys here! Let's hope Shirty signs up soon too. ;)

Valathane sounds very similar to Carbothane which is what I use. I've heard Minwax can yellow slightly with age? (which it says it doesn't).Learning to fly........FAST!!
