Taigen M4/76 is ready for IR battle

Tongde's M25 Chaffee, Korean War vintage.


This one took a while, many steps:

Make sure it runs and works for IR battles first. This required replacing the TD electronics with Heng Long & LegoDEI's. The IR LED required a brass tube extending out of the mantlet.
Replace the rigid plastic radio antennas with flexible wire ones.
Treat the tracks with Perma Blue gun blacking liquid.
Masked the LED lights (head, tail, IR muzzle flash) for the duration.
Paint the body overall US Olive Green with a Vallejo spray can.
Mask it so the sections that aren't to be painted are covered, paint the exposed surfaces a white base.
Mask and cut to cover the teeth.
Spray the remainder yellow.
Mask the yellow and spray the black area.
Remove the masking tape and brush paint the red areas.
Spray everything with Clear Flat spray paint.
Flow corners and edges with AK Streaking Grime Effect.
Fill the engine grills with AK Dark Streaking Grime Effect.
Foam dab dark brown paint on high points and flat areas.
Rub AK Iron Paste on high points and flat areas.
Streak the grime with White Spirit on vertical surfaces, dab it on horizontals.
Dry brush AK Vietnam Earth pigment.
Final Clear Flat spray.
The spare track links were painted NATO Black, flowed light rust, and rubbed with Iron Paste.

Here you go. It had once had its stock electronics replaced with Clark by the previous owner (who also did the rather fetching digital camouflage scheme), before I bought it and reverted to stock Tamiya electronics. I also bought it Kenny Kong metal tracks for the rubber pads, but it did not run well, so I bought AFV track tensioners to fine tune the track tension better. Despite the track tensioners, the performance of the tank was lacking and it is back on its stock plastic tracks.

Sharing a photo of my entire tank collection. I've since added a Tamiya M4 Sherman 50th anniversary release, but with several tanks needing my attention, I am in no hurry to build it.

A wee run out for my T72, and Challenger. The T72 is a lot more nimble than the Challenger.

Definitely very small gravel is much worse for causing de-tracking than dry sand. It's murder on idlers

Does running in sand makes your tracks come off?

Very fine dry sand, or hard packed sand. No. Very wet sand or sand with small stones in, will fetch the tracks off.
