Hi Hugh,Originally posted by Hugh Wiedman View Post
Eric,
Go to the Jet Hangar Hobbies website, www.jethangar.com I think, go to accessories, scroll down to pilot figures and you'll find the 1/10 scale full body pilot, unpainted for $25. You will need to trim a bit off the lower legs to fit, cut at an angel to the cockpit floor, but do that at the end so after you set up the cockpit and see how you want him to fit in you get the most body parts in without his head hitting the canopy. You'll also have to fit the head and hands on along with the oxygen tube, so don't be surprised when it shows up not ready to drop in.
It's a decent pilot, not perfect, but one of the better ones I've found, thanks to Elbee 's recommendation. Also put this in my A-10 and may drop it in the Mig if they ever get back in stock.
The hard part of the instrument panel was painting the knobs white with a toothpick. Got some images of screens off the internet, sized them and glued on, covered with clear gloss urethane to look like glass. Not exactly scale instruments for a F18, but most of us don't know the difference, including me. Also used some gauges from other panels I had lying around, even though they don't belong in this jet. Up close it looks kind of crappy, but further away with the canopy on most don't see the hundreds of imperfections.
The other hard part for me was the darker red under the big maple leaf and on the verticle stabs. I only used HD rustoleum spray paint but if you have an airbrush, it should be quite easy. Simple and easy are 2 words not in my vocabulary.
thanks for all the information. My F-18 will arrive on Monday😊, the printed parts are in progress...
Best, Eric

That really stands out in the sunOriginally posted by radfordc View Post
. Looked good in your initial pictures in the shade, but now it really makes you stand up and take notice. Can't wait to see some shots in the air and you MUST take a flight video, please.

I've finished two E Flite P-51Ds. The first one I did fly some, but I've decided to donate it to the Bottisham Air Field Museum in England where the plane and unit was based in WWII. The second plane I hope to maiden as soon as the snow melts in the next couple of weeks.
I did a total repaint and added cockpit details and other stuff from the stock offering from EFlite that has a blue camo pattern based on an airplane that has been on the airshow circuit in the past. This makeover is a replica of the plane that 361st Fighter Group CO Thomas "Jack" Christian, Jr flew. He was killed in this plane leading a bombing run on a rail yard in France in August 1944. I made it as a tribute to him and this fighter group.

Eric,Originally posted by Eric Gottwald View PostHi Hugh,
yesyesyes, it looks absolutely awesome! Could you provide more details of the cockpit interior and the pilot figure? Did you print the cockpit yourself and would you provide the stl-files? And the pilot figure is also fantastic. I definitely need this one! what is jhh? I didn't find anything in combination with pilot figure. I am currently close to starting my one. Decals and paints are already in place:).

EG, If you will 'go to' the Motion RC website for the Freewing F-18C and 'click' the "Support" page, you will find STL files for the Cockpit that Hugh Wiedman has installed in his Hornet. Or simply 'click' the link above.

Hey Eric, you wouldn't happen to be talking about the F18 Canadian down below, would you?Originally posted by Eric Gottwald View Post
Hi Hugh,
the Belgian paint scheme is one of my two all time favorites (with the Canadian 150 years CF-18 paint scheme being the other). And: you are wrong in two respects😉: all the F-16 pictures are showing the 70mm version. Unfortunately, I cannot show the HSD, the 90mm and the 70mm one in one picture because I have sold the HSD and the 90mm one. What I can show is the size comparison of the 90 mm and the HSD one.
And by the way: my computer wallpaper:
Greets, Eric
Did this one last year during the initial covid lockdown. Started with the base grey 90 mm and went from there. Just now upgrading the fan to the 12 blade 1835 kv inrunner from the stock 1750 kv outrunner. Graphics were from Callie, installed RC Geeks twin burners, built out the 3D cockpit and put a JHH full body pilot in. This is definitely one of my favorites in my hangar, followed by my A10 Arctic Thunder and my 90mm F-16 that has 4 different liveries with changing the tail and nose cones in a matter of 5 minutes (but wish I did the Belgian). BTW, I put the 12 blade inrunner in the F16 and fly it with an 8000 mah battery and get over 5 minutes of flight time, sweet for an EDF.

Hi Hugh,Originally posted by Hugh Wiedman View PostEric Gottwald , those are 3 beautiful birds, The Belgian scheme is a favorite of mine, but I love the F16 so I have lots of favorites. Too many favorites, too few F16's.
Am I wrong or is the 90mm not pictured? Only the HSD and 70mm version? I'd like to see a photo of all 3 together, like Aros did with his fleet of Arctic Camo birds.
