  • Hello,
for those who also use the ailerons in flap mode, how much do you lower them?
And have you set a compensation to the elevator when the flaps are extended?
I'd also like to take this opportunity to ask you for your aileron and elevator travel in millimeters. On the F16 with the 1245 mm wing.
CG 175 mm landing gear extended.
My setting ; Ailerons +-25 mm
    elevator +- 40 mm
    Flap 1 takeoff = 5 mm
    Flap 2 landing = 25 mm
    But i don't have tailerons....
I haven't flown it yet, so I'll need your advice.

    Thank you.

So, I've finally received my HSD F-16 Belgium V3 with S-EDF. The large package was delivered yesterday.
I'm going to set it up with flaps (flaperons) and tailerons like all my other F-16s... every F-16 flies best that way and is still very easy to control even at high alpha. I'm going to set it up with Spektrum AS3X+ and essentially have a flight computer. I'm using the values from my Freewing F-16 V2 90mm 8S version.
I'm really looking forward to the first flight and am curious to see how much slower it is to fly than the Freewing 90mm V2 8S or E-Flite 80mm 6S.

For the first flight, I do the same thing with every plane: linkage to the rudder and servo as specified in the instructions. I don't pay any attention to the instructions otherwise, but rather to what the friends on YouTube I like best. Then I set up three rates on the transmitter using a three-position switch. 1. Full deflection, which is possible (100%), and the maximum possible on the rudder so that I have exactly the same amount of deflection on the rudder on both sides. 2. All rates, except rudder, are reduced to 80% deflection. 3. For speed flight, all rates are set to 60%, except rudder. Also, on all three levels, always 40% expo for the first flight. After that, I start adjusting from flight two onwards. This way, after 5-8 flights, I have usually set the plane up correctly for my liking and only make individual small adjustments after that. I do the same thing for the gyro. I set the flaperons to 20% of maximum aileron deflection for takeoff and about 40% for landing. But that only works with tailerons on the elevator. Otherwise, with 40% flaps on approach, you can barely steer around the longitudinal axis. The F-16 immediately becomes "unstable" and barely responds to control commands.

          • Well, today was her expiration date.

Took off fine. The runway borders a green belt out to a bay. Due to her being a slower and heavy jet my turns are wide. My girl was taking video and around the time she said she lost it in the camera view is about the time I too struggled to see what it was doing orientation-wise. The Arctic camo livery I always coveted betrayed me. Within a few seconds I completely lost orientation and down she went into the bay.

I took my drone out to see if I could spot her and she was nowhere to be found. Maybe at the bottom of the bay for all I know. With two new 6S batteries to boot. Dang it all.

            Hug yours tonight for me.

Again, I have no words that would adequately describe my astonishment.

I am beginning to think there are forces at play here that are beyond my understanding.

It all just sucks big time, Brother.

Thanks Brother Elbee. It has indeed not been a favorable time for me and jets as of late. At least I got my Blue Angel back to try again, but this one hurts. A lot of moola down the tubes as they say. I think I spotted it when reviewing my drone footage. If I am correct, it's sitting half submerged in the bay. Salt water bath equals no joy for electronics. She's gone, baby gone.

Oh dear... I'm so sorry. That's a real shame and hurts every pilot's heart.
Now I've finally got mine ready for its maiden flight, which will take place tomorrow, Friday evening.
I've programmed flaperons, tailerons, and AS3X+ based on my Freewing F-16 V2 8S. I'll turn off the gyro on the first flight so I can trim the jet.
                        Wish me luck. ;-)

                          • Hello Aros
I've finally been able to fly my big plane. The video below is the 7th flight on Saturday. I had three previous flights on Friday evening. All in all, a wonderful airplane that flew perfectly from the very first flight. I only had to tune the left aileron 3 clicks and the left rudder 3 clicks, and that was it. After the trim flight, I immediately switched on the gyro (all values of my settings from the Freewing F-16 V2 8S 90mm), and it worked perfectly. Sometimes you need a little luck.

Thanks, it's really fun and flies almost like a big turbine-powered plane. I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with this HSD F-16.

Thank you. Yes, the plane is really fun to fly and is the perfect size for me. However, I need to reinforce the main landing gear at the bottom of the front fuselage mount and glue it better. Braking with the wheels seems to be putting a lot of pressure on it, and it tore the small plastic part out of the EPO. But otherwise, the new model seems solid. This photo is from the internet, but I tried to narrow down the problem area. Has anyone else had this problem?
