6S 6000mAh is way too big and heavy of a pack to use on the Gripen, at least without some serious tail ballast to make up for the balance.
Try the 4000mAh pack first and see if that gets you off the ground. Chances are, you are trying to take off with a jet even more nose heavy than the already ridiculously nose heavy factory recommendation. I mean, most people here are flying 25-30mm behind the marks. Some of us go even further back to 40mm (hard to achieve). If you are AHEAD of the CG marks, then I'd dare say it's a good thing that your jet never lifted off the ground. That flight wouldn't have been pretty.

Your Gripen doesn't look as crisp as your other planes. Or were you just "flying casual""?

I updated a Spektrum AR10360T to the new firmware with AS3X+ and set up different gyro gains for the VT than for the elevons, since it now allows up to 4 virtual gyros (so I could have different gains again on the canards, but didn't do that - yet). The Gripen responded really well, better than with a separate HE gyro on the elevons like I had before. It also now includes (optional) nosewheel steering stabilization, so I tried that too; it works rather like an Assan but does need a spare channel.

Hi everyone, I bought the Gripen right before Motion update it to the new 12 blade 3658-2150KV motor and new livery.. so I have the old 9 blade 3658-1920KV and ESC 100A with 5A UBEC . Just wondering, has anyone update their plane to using the new 12 blade 3658-2150KV. Did you have to buy and update the ESC also, or just drop in the new 12 blade motor and use the existing ESC 100A with 5A.

. Also, what are the improvement of the new motor.. more flight time, more speed. Thanks for any suggestion!

I had three Gripens I was flying. The first was a repaint and had the stock 9b and TV. I pulled the fan and ESC and put in a Turnigy 120HV ESC and Jet Fan 8S EDF. Fantastic. Motion put them on sale so I bought a spare (9b and non reversing ESC) and stashed it away as a spare. A friend put his non TV 9b one up for sale and I bought it. I then had one 8S with TV and one 6S without TV.

I got bored one day and built the spare and added TV to it. I had the repainted 8S TV, stock 6S TV and stock 6S non TV. Life is good!

Then the 2150 came out plus reversing 100A ESC. I bought 3 sets and also two of the FW afterburners. Swapped all over to the 2150 and reversing and put the AB on the two that were TV. The 2150 is a huge upgrade in power. I would say it is equal to the JF 8S set up I had. Adding the reversing ESC was also great. I have the canards set up as air brakes in them too.

We had a jet fly in last month and I was offered a good price for my no TV Gripen but pulled the 2150 and ESC out before selling it. I may just need to get another Gripen!

I am working on a later model Gripen with the DF-80-12b fan and 3658-2150KV motor, it worked when I first powered it up but now when I plug in a battery I get no response from the ESC, no tones just power from the BEC.
Any ideas on what might be going on and how to correct the issue?

Hmm. Try calibrating the ESC. Turn on the TX, no throttle kill, full throttle, plug in plane, wait a couple seconds you should hear two beeps, go to low throttle you should hear the 6 beeps and arming beep.

If it won't double check that the motor to ESC connections are good. And that the yellow reverse wire to your receiver is in correctly. If so I would say you have a bad ESC.

                          Thanks Evan D,
I get no tones when attempting calibrate so it looks like yet another component needs replacement before this thing will fly.
The ESC on motion's JAS-39 replacement parts page does not match what was installed from the factory, mine is labeled V2 not sure if that indicates its a newer version than what is on the parts page or not.

Yours should be the newer one with a black and gold label that has reverse. They show the older blue and white on their site. If you search "100A" the ESC you have should come up, they use the same one in multiple aircraft.

I had something similar on my F-22 after I used a Y connector on the throttle channel so as to run an afterburner. Turns out the Y connector had a bad signal lead, so power was going to the receiver but no signal was going to the ESC,

I had thought of that possibility and wired straight to the Rx and still get no tones, likely my fault as at some point while attempting to create some sort of organization under the battery tray I got the ESC lead plugged in backwards. I ordered a new one this morning, will see what happens when it arrives.

New 100A ESC (black and gold label) installed, calibrated and seems to be working for forward flight. I have read the manual for the reverse function set up and have more questions than before, never used reverse before so the setup process is a bit of a mystery.
The instructions seem to indicate using a channel controlled via switch to activate reverse, is reverse an all or nothing function or is the switch just arming the ESC to change direction?
Does the ESC have any protection against being instructed to turn both directions at the same time or does this have to be set up in the transmitter?

I managed to get reverse thrust to activate, now no matter what I do I can not get out of reverse unless I remove the reverse signal wire from the Rx.

Issue sorted out now, FrSky end points exceeded the ESCs required end points, once adjusted reverse works as expected on the bench. Wondering how effective reverse thrust is on the Gripen?

I managed to break the nose steering link and there are none listed in spare parts, are there other EDFs with steering link parts that will work on the Gripen?

Does the model have reverse thrust for short landings?
