The 4S version is slow, needing a lot of throttle to basically just fly around. Putting a 4S battery in the 6S version would get in the air if off pavement but barely be flyable and you’d probably stall it and crash. The 6 has better gear and servos as well as a much better power system. Get the 6. And get proper batteries for it. If you have to go 4S maybe the Rebel would be better.

Sorry, it looks like it's discontinued... Freewing Rebel V2 70mm EDF Jet - PNP [FJ20521P] Motion RC

To bad they discontinued the Rebel. https://www.motionrc.com/products/fr...t-pnp-fj20521pOriginally posted by jrf View PostThank you. I did not find a Rebel at Motion RC. Can you tell me where to look?
If your budget allows, the 80mm Avanti is a fantastic EDF. Arguably a better 1st or 2nd EDF than the Vulcan. Ask me how I know!
EFlite 70mm Habu was my 1st EDF. Runs on 4S or 6S. BnF is a good value & comparable price. No retracts. Flys plenty slow & very well behaved. I had fun with that one for a couple years. It's good on 4S and quick on 6S but not fast like the Vulcan 6S.
Another nice EDF in that sub $250 price point is the FlyFans 64mm L-39. Three color options. Several at my field are really enjoying it. Currently out of stock, but if your patient they should be back in stock soon....

When retracted, is the tire touching any part of the wheel well? If it is, then it's possible that the strut has been bent enough to prevent the retract from deploying. Next time you see this happen on the bench, as soon as you hit the gear switch, push that strut further to close and see if it pops out. If it does, you'll need to UNbend the strut so that the tire does not rub up against the wheel well. A few bumpy or hard landings can bend the strut.Originally posted by Joe_the_kid_65 View PostI've flown my 6-S Vulcan 4 or 5 times; it flies very well, speed is ok. But after 2 flights, the retracts didn't get out. Sometimes only one retract works, sometimes two, rarely three. I did the last 2 flights with retracts out. Does anyone know this issue? Thanks in advance Joachim

The 4s version of the FREEWING VULCAN isn't slow, nor does it require much speed to fly, as you say. I've been flying it for a year, and you'd be amazed at how fast it flies and at the same time the slow, low-flying passes it's capable of with and without flaps. Many of my colleagues at the club where I fly, who fly 6s aircraft like the AVANTI or VIPER JET, are amazed at the flight capabilities of the FREEWING VULCAN 4s.Originally posted by Evan D View PostThe 4S version is slow, needing a lot of throttle to basically just fly around. I am happy that you are having a good time flying your Vulcan. I have flown the 4S version and know the difference between the two.
Have you flown the 6S version? Just the landing gear is worth the upgrade.

I don't need to fly the 6s version to know that it will be superior to the 4s (it has a more powerful engine and better landing gear). The question is not whether the 6s version is superior to the 4s, but rather that you have said that the 4s version is slow and requires a lot of acceleration to fly, which is not true. I repeat, at the club where I fly there are several colleagues with EDF airplanes with 6s batteries similar to the VULCAN 6s, such as AVANTI, VIPER JET, etc. Their opinion, along with mine, is totally contrary to yours, since it is not at all true that the VULCAN 4s is slow or requires a lot of acceleration to fly. The VULCAN 4s is an airplane that flies very well, whether at speed or not; the engine is powerful enough for the size and weight of the airplane. Please don't say things that aren't true. As soon as I can, I'll post a video of me flying my VULCAN 4s and let people tell me if it's slow or needs a lot of acceleration to fly.Originally posted by Evan D View PostI am happy that you are having a good time flying your Vulcan. My opinion is no different; it's the real one. It's as simple as watching the MOTION RC promotional video flying the VULCAN 4s, and from there, everyone can draw their own conclusions. My VULCAN 4s flies the same as in the MOTION RC promotional video; if that's slow flying... Have a nice day too!Originally posted by Evan D View PostMy opinion. Yours differs. Have a great day.

My comment about slow was in response to a person asking;
"Hello;
I am a long term flyer, but new to EDFs. I like the Vulcan and am trying to decide between the 4s and the 6s. I am not interested in top speed, but I like the features of the 6s. On the other hand, the videos show the 6s flies quite a bit heavier than the 4s. Can I use a 4 cell in the 6s, and if I do, how would the performance conpare with the stock 4s?"
He was asking in comparison to the 6S. I gave my answer and now he has yours. Your opinion is obviously based on flying slower beginner airplanes. Having to say your peanut gallery thinks it's fast doesn't mean a thing. They probably just feel sorry for you. Even an Avanti isn't that fast. Slow or fast is all point of view, your point of view is just slower.Originally posted by Evan D View PostThe 4S version is slow, needing a lot of throttle to basically just fly around. That's pretty arrogant! So, your opinion is the only true one? Wow!!!Originally posted by danimataro View Post
My opinion is no different; it's the real one.
Everything is relative and everything is what's in each person's own mind. My 6S Vulcan was slow to me and I got bored of it quite quickly. I pretty much gave it away.

What do you know if I fly slow or fast planes? Do you know how many planes I have and what type to give that opinion? No, right? Well, save that pointless comment. Believe me, if I give you the list of all the planes I have flying, it will surely double yours.Do my colleagues at the club where I fly feel sorry for me? With this comment you just portrayed yourself, mate. You should be more polite to those who disagree with what you say. What purpose do you have with the list of planes you own? I assure you, if I post my list of the planes I currently fly, it'll probably double yours. What's happening, is the one who has more planes is more right? I'm truly amazed at the level of expertise here...Do you think that because you have more planes (according to you of course) you have more experience and the absolute truth? I'll just tell you that I have a pylon racing plane that reaches a speed of over 230 km/h (which I have been flying for several years without a single crash), but of course, for an "expert aeromodeler" like you it will surely be a slow one... I'm not going to waste my time with you because this conversation is going nowhere.
Greetings to all!!!!

Well, it seems you can't freely express your opinion here without being called arrogant. I still stand by and defend my opinion that the Vulcan 4s isn't slow at all. If that's arrogant to you, then no problem. I sincerely don't care what you think of me...
And I do agree with you on one thing, that speed is relative for each person, because saying that the VULCAN 6s is slow...
Greeting to all!!

You are the one that said my opinion was wrong.
If you don’t believe what I’m saying why should I believe you? All the negativity you started is on you, not me.
I wish you well.
