I am having a lot of problems with the steering, and I would like some on to give me some clue on what's wrong with it. Running in the tarmac runway, at low or medium speed, everything works just fine, but when going closer to take-off speed, I have no control on the steering. Kind of the plane drives like a crazy squirrel. I do the take-off run at low rate in the steering, which is set with 32% expo, 10% throw. One thing that y noticed is that the nose wheel has (what I think) too much free movement. Therefore, the question is, if this is normal, or I have some issue either with the pin or the hub of the retract. Help, please!
I’m bringing up this post from a year ago, because I have the same problem. While I’m certainly not the best RC pilot, I have been flying for nearly 10 years, operating numerous taildragger aircraft that I somehow manage to keep straight. This is my second edf, the first being a beat up old Habu, that I can keep straight on our dirt runway. As in the post quoted, the nose gear (upgraded strut) has a lot of play, both rotating left and right, and the whole strut wobbling loose in the retract unit. I don’t use a flight controller. Any help would be appreciated. It’s downright embarrassing when I takeoff, so much so that my Hawk is in danger of becoming a static model.

Because our field is grass only I have made some parts for 3d-printing. I can’t compare if there is a difference when you use these parts or not because I didn’t fly without them.

Hi, I printed and intalled it before the maiden flight and I think it is very useful. But I glued the part in without removing the belly pan, was no problem.

    thx for sharing the stl-file

    regards, Wolfgang

Apologies if this has been previously covered but I just thought I'd share a little mod in case it hasn't and is useful to someone. Front leg support. I'm operating off grass and I found that the front nose oleo was getting pushed back even on mormal landings, so I designed up and installed a nose wheel support (similar to ones available for other front wheel edf jets). Link to the STL file is at the bottom of this post.

Remove the front plastic belly pan. There should not be this much glue in yours, I suspect. The first owner of mine got a bit too happy with the foam tac. Glue in the support brace.

Glue the belly pan back in place and your done.

    Hope someone finds this useful.

Hello I have just gotten the Hawk and I am preparing for the maiden, this is my first edf model. I have only flown prop war birds in both electric and nitro engines for many years. After reading the majority of posts and looking at the maiden flights it looks like most of you are using flaps for take off. I fly off of a 400 foot paved runway here in AZ and was wondering if you all would suggest flaps for take off or not. Thanks in advance or the feed back.

For those (as me) who have to operate the plane on a grass field I have made a protection to prevent FOD through the cheater holes.Just sand a little bit (if necessary) und glue the parts in.I have printed the parts upside down because the side where the raft was located, is not visible when build in. Support is not required

Can you experienced pilots please share how slow I can fly the Bae Hawk? I enjoy slow flying, like cruising... Will a 30% throttle plus half flaps be able to maintain level flight?

Does the BAe Hawk high performance version come with push rod keepers for the elevator? I was looking up a part and saw this picture which is the spare push rod set. I didn't think I had those so I looked and I did not. I ordered a set after looking for keepers by themselves for a while unsuccessfully. The push rod set came, but no keepers. Well Maiden went well. Really nice flying jet only thing is my turnigy heavy duty 3300s are in need of retirement. What 4000-4500 packs are people running that aren't too expensive? P.s here are some pics of small scale details I've started to tinker with.

Thanks Wes for this comment and for being a recent guest on my show! This jet is my go to and it has never disappointed me. I have only had one bad landing and that was because it was pretty dark out and the CG was a little too far back.

This jet in the high performance addition would be nuts, but the standard issue version is fast and A LOT of fun every time I take it out.

I bought the Hawk ARF + last week. I installed the power system from my ME-262...60 amp ESC and 2150 kv motor with a max amp draw of 50 amps. I was concerned that this might be a little underpowered...it wasn't. I am using a 6s 5000mah 55C battery. For the first flight I set the timer to 3 min's and landed with the battery at 55%.

Our flying field is bare dirt and grass and the Hawk took off and landed with no problem. Most of the flight was done with the throttle at the 60% position on the Tx. Speed looked very scale. Full power only needed for going vertical in maneuvers. Takeoff was with half flaps and landing with full flaps. I used the low rate settings as shown in the manual but reduced them even more after the first flight.

    Very happy with this one.
