These are my original 3.5” light weight wheel mods . Canopy glue for the raised details , going strong 3 years & I swear they have helped with bad landings & bad field conditions!

Thanks ! They are semi soft tires sold by Amazon and ZY hobbies , I will try to find a link . I am using them on my TF Seafury and my 80” Phoenix P40 in larger sizes as well.

Late to the party as usual, but I have read the entire thread and want to say thank you to all the contributors here for all the tips, hints and 3DP parts for this lovely Corsair.

I have lots of plans for my recently purchased bubble-top. I've already printed and painted the cockpit parts, pilot and have an envelope from Callie sat on my workbench. Unfortunately my maiden attempt yesterday evening didn't go to plan!! I had the field to myself (always prefer to maiden without a crowd) and the wind dropped to almost zero which is rare here in the Netherlands. C of G and range checks all done so taxied out and throttled up...it came up on the mains so I held throttle steady to let her build speed then she dipped the nose and dug in the prop. I shut off and she slowly nosed over. No damage other than my pride, so put her back on her wheels and tried again. Same result and as I was walking up to it I was hoping the top of the rudder was in a hole...but no....it had cracked and folded over 😒End of the maiden plans.

All fixed now and I also adjusted the elevators with a tiny bit of up trim when at neutral position...also need to adjust my thumbs to react a bit quicker!! Have any of you experienced the same thing? Maybe I needed more power sooner or perhaps fully released the up elevator too soon once she was rolling. The Corsair isn't my first big warbird as I have the Hangar 9 60 size P-47 (with the FMS 1700mm Corsair prop) which I love but I can tell I need to be on top of my game with this new bird.

My plan is to fly it, get it set up and trimmed then add the decals and go to town with some of the weathering techniques described in the thread and begin to really enjoy it in the Spring. I'm really happy with my new aircraft...but will be happier still once I've got it in the air! 😂

I have nosed over with my Spitfire!!!but never the Corsair.. trim a little bit of up as I said.
And hold a little up as I go down the runway...
Make sure not to full power it to soon. Or it will torque roll over on its back.. done it couple times early in the process... This whole thread would be a long read so congratulations 4 that and as above welcome to the team ianl201

Some progress over the weekend. New pilot is in his office along with the 3DP instrument panel and sidewalls. Just some touch ups and the canopy can be glued back on. I added the white tail as painted on CVE109 aircraft and the kit decals. She's starting to feel like my aeroplane now!

I also bought some weathering pigments and experimented on an area of the wing. Happy with first attempt....no pics yet....but it will give the seaweathered effect I'm looking for

Nicely done, great work on the pilot, and very glad to see the 'white paint' on the empannage, so many miss that.

It's easy to modify the Robart rims to work with metric axles without using tubing, tape etc

Description of the process in this RCG post from 2023


Robart Tip: Use a tiny bit of FoamTac or similar to secure the spoked/moon wheel covers provided with the rims.

Ian welcome and very easy to nose over this Corsair . I removed the weight on mine during assembly and achieved CG with my packs 6s5000. Our club is determined to have the best, thickest grass, appealing on the eyes but not great for RC. My Corsair ( even with the larger wheels ) fights the grass on rollout . Sticking to warbird take off protocol, I want my tail up on taxi and increasing throttle. When take off in this manner it’s clearly a balance of ready to fly or nose over lol 😂. So I got tired of the drama and set up some up trim on flight mode one and switch to flight mode two once I am at safe altitude. This also allows me in flight mode 1 to taxi following goods habits and not forcing the model into the air. I am really anal on take off habits because I fly everything from epo to heavier wing loaded models, so habits count.

The model itself is a total joy to fly, scale speed and no bad habits . You will love it once you get it air-born. Love your modifactions, you should consider kitting them and selling them ready to paint !

Just started flying my Corsair .Is it my bad flying or is anyone else having the same issues I am having .I fly of a grass runway and I love the way the Corsair takes off and flies but landings are costing me a fortune and making Motion RC rich .Every time I land ,even a soft landing I just rips out the landing gear .Has anyone else suffered with this issue or is it just my bad flying or is this a know issue with this model ? It is costing me a fortune keep replacing the retrakes .It come to a pont now were I take off and belly it in on the grass because the retrake can not take anything short of a perfect landing

OK, time for a small update. Been busy with the chipping pen, Robarts and dummy struts are fitted. Still want to add engine detail and then start with the weathering. Walking the fine line between looking right and overdoing it! Think I stopped myself at the right time with the silver pen!

I'm away for work for the next couple of weeks so progress will continue to be glacial!

Really like the silver chipping pen idea, I should have tried that on my Corsair.

It is rewarding to do the weathering, I would bet once you're back in the workshop, you'll be adding more.

Hi guys! One of the many Winter projects is to convert the Corsair over to the upgrade landing gear, the one with the larger diameter pins. Seems mine was on the tail end of the smaller pins and we who have flown these planes know that the landing gear needs all the help it can get!
Any feedback on whether the upgrades helped strengthen the system or not?
