The version 1 “ self trimmed” and made it very difficult to judge control authority limits until it was too late. It now acts more like a normal gyro and isn’t disruptive.
When even the guy making the BH videos for the B-1B (Jeremy) says to disable the stock gyro on the V1, it's probably a good idea not to use that gyro. I put a Hobbyeagle in my V1, and it flies fine.

It gets surprisingly floaty with the wings put, and just looks cool with the wings swept. Takes a good amount of up elevator to trim it in the swept condition, but seperate flight modes make that simple. The retracts are a work of art and I haven’t had any problems there. Definitely recommend it, and the RC geek afterburner kit works perfectly in it!

As for the 747, I did have an HSD Jets 747 in the KLM scheme a few years back. It is now refinished as the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft:
Thanks for that. I remember now talking to you before I got the B-17 model. The Shuttle Carrier aircraft is really impressive! I got to tour one of them down in JSC in Houston with a mock space shuttle orbiter on top.

Thanks! Still hoping you’ll have some success with the B-17 soon. I need to get back to working on the Shuttle soon to go on top of the 747.

        • Hi 106DD: Please keep us all informed on the shuttle orbiter you plan on adding to the 747 model. I did some contract work with the NASM in Washington, DC refurbishing an old NASA 1/15 scale shuttle that will be hung from the ceiling in a diorama setting of releasing a satellite into space from the cargo bay. That should open this summer.

Regarding the B-17, sadly I had numerous motor problems even after ordering a new motor from China, that took a month. After my taxi tests the field, I decided to abandon this project, and am looking to donate it for static display someplace or museum.

I want to thank you again for all your help on this B-17, even if didn’t work out to fly it. Instead, I’m busy reworking a 1.5m FMS P-47D as a bubbletop fighter which should be a good challenge. Hope to fly it this summer.

          cheers

          • Shoot, my offer to send you a set of motors still stands. It’s a shame since that B-17 is basically a big Cub when it’s in the air.

Looking forward to seeing your P-47 come together. Have been watching your build there and it’s looking great!

And will do in the 747/Shuttle project!

            • Have X-Fly discontinued this great model, anyone know, or hopefully producing a new batch? 🙏

              • It seems all the usual sellers are "out of stock" and have been for a while. Hard to say if or when they will ever be back in stock. Places like RC Castle have been out of stock on many, many items for months and even years. You should contact Banana Hobby customer service and ask them, since this plane was their "baby" in the US to start with. They may or may not know or they may not say. It is very possible that this plane was not a good seller. It had a bit of controversy in it's first year, thus the "V2" now. Perhaps it's not so "great" after all. My flying buddy has one. He hasn't flown it much after only a "couple" of flights.

                • I had some communications with BH recently when seeking a replacement nose assembly for my Xfly B-1 (hangar rash accident)

BH stated that they would get that part back in stock in June, along with the next shipment of B-1s.

                  Certainly could happen.

                  • If only Freewing made one. Sigh.
