Rex,
Me too.
Hecht Speed modded one with an OS .56 4-stroke.
His son also has one that's stock electric.
I suggest you watch the vids.
Love the Granville Bros. GeeBees.
Built the Coverite GeeBee Model D early '80s with an OS .61 FSR ABC.
Slightly overpowered
but I enjoyed it just the same.
Lost her during "Typhoon Ex-Wife"
Might have shared this picture before.
Would like to see a GeeBee Model "Z" Spirit of Springfield, too.
Best, LB

Hi vrosi1963: Just to be clear that I understand this correctly, what I am looking for is a conversion to a bubbletop -25RE version or later. I would also like to have a bubble top canopy/windsheid(s) for this plane, or future planes that I might build. I do have 3D parts to scratchbuild a bubble top cockpit as well as a pilot, but would be interested in anything that you have in mind to make and sell, too. I would use the current FMS 1.5m kit for the wings, tail, etc.,, bot would need the conversion for the fuselage to a bubbletop and the canopies/windscreens, of course.Originally posted by vrosi1963 View PostOk you can ship the fuse and canopy frame no canopy and i will get the canopy plug correct , then will get 5 or 6 canopies pulled , when i am happy with what i see, will work on a 3d designed head rest and armor plate. and scale a late model pilot to match. after everyone is happy with the pictures , I can sell you the fuse back for ? I am looking at building Dave Schilling's Hairless Joe, the -25 RE that I built years ago from a 1/6 scale Aerotech kit. That's my goal.
Can you use my FMS fuselage to cut it down for a bubbletop canopy? Also if that is the case, I'd like to see any basic cockpit kit you would design.

I can sell a canopy and headrest , the cheap way and let the consumer cut down the razor turtle deck to my ply former included to reference to get the profile correct to start.. in your case i can reship back your ready for paint modified fuse. with canopy and head rest armor plate, not mounted .. holding the canopy on is your preference, i dont have a scale canopy back of pilot non sliding track structure yet, I cross reference scale plastic kits and real p47 for my referencesOriginally posted by davegee View Post

I like your work. I would be interested in sending you my extra fuse I bought a couple of years ago. Actually, I bought it just to replace a damaged rudder on another airplane. They just didn’t sell a rudder replacement for me. Having said that, I do have the barebones fuselage that I will buy a new kit and transfer all the parts I need over to the modified fuse that you would convert to a bubble top fuse.
A couple questions:
1) do you need me to send you the kit cockpit section to do your work.m? I don’t have one for this fuselage, but could buy a new one from FMS to send directly to your facility or home for you to do the work.
2) Outside of shipping costs, do you have a rough idea what you would charge to do the conversion work for this bubble top?
I think it would be a very worthwhile project for me, and if it comes out well, I could see others who might want you to do a similar conversion for their planes.
Thanks,
davegee

I will charge you only $80 via paypal for the conversion including a new canopy my cost alone $22ish , 3d printing a plug , sanding prep and shipping to my vac for guy ,, you pay shipping both ways for the fuse, your choice of how , this is cheap considering my time ,10 hours for the foam work and primer and filler, Your choice I really like my 1.2m P47 flying characteristics and dont see my buying a 1500 anytime soon, so let me know. send me. the interior is your choice .i will only provide a blank clean ready to finish platform only. pm me when you are ready for the address , i am guessing the fuse has no stickers hopefully,

Sounds good. I think that is very reasonable. I have had the 1.5m FMS P-47 since 2016 when they first came out and really like them. I like the size and scale outline which is very good. There are a few design decisions by FMS I would have done differently, or have done differently like the tailwheel doors, but overall that's the horse I'm backing.Originally posted by vrosi1963 View PostI will charge you only $80 via paypal for the conversion including a new canopy my cost alone $22ish , 3d printing a plug , sanding prep and shipping to my vac for guy ,, you pay shipping both ways for the fuse, your choice of how , this is cheap considering my time ,10 hours for the foam work and primer and filler, Your choice I really like my 1.2m P47 flying characteristics and dont see my buying a 1500 anytime soon, so let me know. send me. the interior is your choice .i will only provide a blank clean ready to finish platform only. pm me when you are ready for the address , i am guessing the fuse has no stickers hopefully,
Regarding my question on a previous post, do you need the removable cockpit section as part of your converting the model to a bubbletop from a razorback? If so, I'll buy one from MRC and ship it directly to you from them. I only have the fuselage at this point. Fortunately, there are no stickers on it so that should be helpful to you. I use Callie for almost all my markings needs and will use her again on this one.
Once I get your answer if you need the removable cockpit section or not for the redo, I'll PM you for your mailing address to ship it.

Davegee

Meanwhile, back at the ranch....

Work has started on Rex's pilot.
Got the head fitting onto the body ( the hardest part of the process)
And the hole drilled in the bottom of the neck to be able to put the head on a 'pike'
The pilot in silver and the pilot in black primer, not dried yet so it looks glossy but is actually very flat.
The flat gives a good surface to draw the paint.

I know Rex will love the pilot and the other "eye candy" we give him to spruce his plane up for the judges a bit! The openable canopy will allow them to really get their noses up close to see the details!Originally posted by Grossman56 View PostMeanwhile, back at the ranch....

I think to save $$ I'll just order the canopy from FMS and send it directly to your home/facility instead of sending to me and then me resending it to you. You can remove the canopy and just put it back in with the other stuff when you eventually send it back to me. PayPal works great, I have been using it for over a decade.Originally posted by vrosi1963 View Post

I'll PM you a message and get your address to send you. I'll probably need UPS to make me a box long enough for the fuselage. I should be able to do that on Monday. I'll PM you when I send it out so you know it's on the way and an approximate ETA for you.
This should be great! I was so hoping that FMS would come up with a bubbletop of this airplane, but I agree with you that it probably won't happen. I can think of at least one other RC pilot who wants to do a bubbletop out of the FMS 1.5m razorback. This might be a good advertisement to showcase your expertise!
cheers

Here's a couple pics of my Aerotech 1/6 scale P-47M with open gun bay. The plane flew in a few competitions around the USA and was retired to the Evergreen Spruce Goose museum in Oregon where it remains today. Russ and his wife Joan are in one of the pics. Russ passed away in 2013 at the age of 88. Great guy, as was his wife!
Cheers

Dan,
Your pilot is going to look great in the 47. Using your pilot painting tips My pilots are getting better each time. Hope you show the steps you take on painting. The flat black primer trick really makes the painting go better.
Dave,
Outstanding model! Nice to remember friends who have gone before us.
Another will be in my future if this conversion goes well. a P-47M for me.
vrosi1963,

Hi Rex: Do you want me to include a throttle quadrant with the proper knobs on it? I printed up the basic quadrant, just need to paint it and put the knobs on. You can look at it with the other parts when you get them and see if you want to add it. I think you'd have to remove the OEM quadrant, can't remember what that looked like at the moment, but this one should be pretty scale and accurate.Originally posted by jetfool View PostDan,

The M model is one of my favorites, although a lot of people aren't familiar with them as they all went to the 56th FG and were divided up into the three squadrons in the last months of WWII in Europe. I have done planes in all three distinct color schemes. I think my favorite is with the 63rd FS, with the "disruptive sky" blue as they called it. It is actually a Very good camo scheme in the air, though. There were sometimes we would actually "lose" it for a moment flying up above us! I found some old photos of Fire Ball at a competition in Phoenix from several years ago. This is the one you saw in Titusville, FL.
