      • A few more pics of the Tiger II I posted awhile back. This is actually a vintage Tamiya kit (56004) from the 1980's. I've reworked and upgraded it, it's currently running a Clark TK50.

        • My official in service "glamour" photo. I shoot one for all my tanks. From this point on they just get dirty, scratched, oily and all around naturally weathered.

          • My latest Heng Long RC addition is a Heng Long 3898-1 Sherman M4A3.

I got the Sherman for $115 shipped from NJ from one of the Toucan seller. I got the basic plastic version with TK-7.0 MFU which has all the functionality and programming I need. From recent experience with Leopard 2A6 and T-34/85, HL metal parts do not meet my expectations and I ended up throwing them away.

I added a Mato metal track T-74 with duckbill set for $120. It is heavier than I would like, but the casting of the track, sprocket and idler wheel are very good. My first choice would be the Taigen/Torro metal track at much lower price. But the Taigen/Torro were out of stock for many weeks when I tried to buy.

I got an open box Heng Xin gearbox from Toucan Hobby and some surplus Tamiya380 motors on e-bay. The saving kept my total hardware purchses under $300 which is cheaper than the equivalent HL metal version at much higher quality. The Heng Xin gearbox is an easy dropin to the HL Sherman. The Tamiya380 runs 20% faster than the HL grey380. It gives very good scale speed for the later model Sherman.

I added a HL metal recoil BB shooting unit that I described elsewhere on this forum.

The build is a straight forward build using HL parts and decals. I used the Tamiya 1:35 RC Sherman manual as my buildup guide which has slightly more detail instruction than HL manual.

                    • Taigen Panther G, metal edition. This was put together as a sort quickly repaired and rushed back into service build. It has a new turret, new barrel, steel road wheels. It's running a Clark TK60, Clark servo recoil unit, Visaton FRS7 speaker and full IR battle system.

Nice Tamiya leopard in there. Which era is it? Clutch drive, motorized plastic hul 1980s or the late static model RC’D?
Im very much into Tamiya leopards though I don’t really post the builds here, they are on RC Universe. I’m building 6 more of them right now all modernized mechanical upgrades I designed.

1992 or 1993 I bought it. Clutch drive. Some of me wants to modernise it, some of want to keep it as standard for nostalgia’s sake. I do not think I have the confidence or skills to modernise it. Currently I have other priorities so it will remain as is for now. I have all the parts for it, kept safe. It was the first tank I bought when I had a pay rise and a bonus.
                                  Regards Ian

                                  • I have modernized a few of those with ball bearing wheels, taigen tranys, full upturn turret function, IR battle and pretty good fabricated tracks or the metal ones with rubber pads. I have several spare sets of those proper metal ones with rubber pads.
