Roban AH-1W Cobra 700 Size Scale Helicopter

Hi,

Now, a few years later, what's the advice on FBL controllers? I fly the FrSky X20. Just got my Cobra and am collecting the bits. Thanks!

I use the new edition Microbeast in my 700 Cobra and it is solid, Gravy is good with the FrySky set up and Microbeast, he helped me a bunch when I first got into the FBL controllers.

I switched to mostly 500’s. But all my helicopters use the microbeast plus.
I currently run 2 450’s, 4 500’s, 1 550 and 2 600’s. Never had an issue yet. All FrSky receivers and microbeast plus controllers. I use SBUS from reciever to microbeast. Only thing plugged into receiver directly for control is throttle. Channel 3.

Anyone have a sound system for this bird lying around?

I have put the modelsounds inc card in there with 2 3" in speakers and I'm currently trying out 2 2" exciters. Unfortunately, the guy that runs modelsoundsinc retired last year.... don't know of whats really out there to replace what he was doing.

I use the scorpion ESC/BEC.... and mainly have ran the spektrum AR7210BX (which is just a specfic spektrum beastx). Really keeps the wiring to a minimum...

It seems the mechanics have changed a bit over time. I'm scatching my head on the tail boom supports. The pics dont make sense because when i tighten the bolts, it bows the carbon support. ?

I think I mounted mine on the inside?

That's how I mounted mine- just like your picture- it bows them a bit... but doesn't hurt anything.

You can also just bend the aluminum on the part that comes in contact to the frame. If you get it at the correct angle, the supports will be straight and will do a lot better job at holding the boom in place.

Just got the pan servo functional on my gun. Ended up using a turnigy 180 deg servo. Plan is to use the same servo in the FLIR. I did get the FPV camera functional as well. My internet has been touch and go today, so I’ll try to get a video of the gun movement up once it returns to normal.

Dumb question, maybe, but how'd you get the FLIR off?

Honestly, I don't even remember. It was years ago. I think I may have used a hacksaw blade to cut the mounting shaft.

I went with the MKS servos, Brain2 FBL, Hobbywing 130 and the recommended Scorpion motor. The tail seems to have quite a bit of up/down shake. It's literally been almost 20 years since I've flown a heli, and they all had flybars, so I'm not sure what to focus on (tuning-wise). Also, the fit of the head/spindle to the main-shaft isn't precise. I've tried differential tightness on the clamp bolts to even it out, and it's helped a little, but there's still some wobble I can't seem to get rid of. Ideas? Did you guys have to balance the included blades much?

I wouldn't fly to aggressive with these Roban scale mechanics, if you do fly like that keep an eye on all the metal gears for wear, they have been known to strip out the teeth if flown to aggressively, also your video looks like its flying great as for vibes, maybe in person you see it better than we do, I really couldn't see it bobbing up and down, you will get vibes and certain shakes on spool up but once it goes through that head speed it should get smooth, I have owned 5 Roban scale helis over the last three yrs and they all seem to have certain vibes that are head to find, I think the production parts and tolerances are not all that great but they do fly good, seem to get better after more flights and as the parts wear in. I always balance my main blades and tail, some take a little tape, some don't. My 700 size Roban Cobra actually flies really good and its the only one I own at the moment, its kind of sporty to fly compared to the 700 size Apache, 800 size OH-6, AH-6 and the 800 Hughes 500, the Hughes 500 is a close second though, they also fly really good to be so big.
