That is the SIGNAL wire. You do not need the power wires as the servos are powered through the blue box.

          • That paint job is amazing! How long did that take and what kind of paints did you use?

Thanks for the compliment! I use Tamiya Spray Enamel that I get at Hobby Lobby. Colors are Competition Orange, Flat White and black. Decals are from Callie (who else could it be? Thanks Callie!). After it’s all had a few days to cure nicely, I go over the whole jet with either Testors Dulcote or Gloss, makes the entire finish much more uniform. Also, I have good luck with Tamiya 6mm masking tape. This one only took about three evenings of messing around to get done, so it’s no scale contest winning paint job. But, I hope it looks the part!

              • Just completed the new livery on the F9F-8 Cougar. This was my second complete repaint and although I see imperfections in the air she will look great. Went with the FMS 2000Kv 6S-EDF/ 12 Blade, Castle Creations 100amp ESC, Spektrum AR 8020T Receiver ( removed gyro), Hitec HS 5065 Elevator servo's. Of course could not have done this without the help and graphics from Callie Graphics. The pictures look like she is gloss black, but she is Deep Dark Blue. Once in the sun I'm sure the Dark Blue will show better. Just waiting now to bring her to the field for her maiden.

                  • Cape Jets Why did you switch out the stock power system? Had you flown it stock?

The repaint and scheme you chose looks great! I'm digging the repainted versions, thoigh i do like the classic stock paint scheme as well.

Did not switch out stock EDF power. Got my Cougar as an ARF-Plus and installed my own EDF and ESC.

                              • Had the maiden flights of my new F9F-8 Cougar today. Put in 3 good flights and 1 flight with all the tanks and missile's on board. Only needed some small trim on the elevator and she flew great. Great flying plane and Dark Blue looks really cool in the sky. I look forward to flying her more this season.

                                    • Maidened today plus 1. What is everyone’s opinion so far on landing flaps? How about flaps up landing? Just looking for some feedback.

                                      • Results of Maiden flight. I am an 20 year experienced R/C flyer, flew on a calm day, all controls checked ok. Some straight ahead taxi hops. Red light on the gyro (first aircraft with a gyro), and it sounded like the gyro was controlling the Servos , but I did not see much displacement. The Cougar climbed straight ahead normally to about 20’, started a slow roll to the left, then slowly dived into the mud. Not a snap roll on takeoff. I have sent a message to Motion about the gyro, everything else seemed ok

Did you have the Gyro on a 3 position switch, on, off and auto balance. Before you flew did you switch it to auto balance which would have given you the maximum amount of movement and then checked the direction of movement on each surface e.g. holding plane with nose in front of you, lift up left wing to vertical and left aileron goes up plenty. . Lift up tail relative to nose and elevator goes up, hold nose still and move tail to your right, rudder goes to right. If all checked out then you flick switch to gyro on and you SHOULD get small movements only. Flick switch to off then no movement or sound from gyro or servos. If you did not do this before you flew then you are assuming that the factory got it right, but they DO NOT ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT.? If you check the Motion r.c. assembly and setup videos I think they advise people to check all controls out before flight. If you did all this then its back to the traditional check the radio, range check, servo checks etc. If all that checks out then you may not have got up enough air speed before lift off and it stalled in to the left. Sorry if these points seem to be obvious to you but I am just exploring the possibilities.
